At the International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS), a fictional New York-based intelligence agency, eight dysfunctional secret agents attempt to solve global crises while simultaneously screwing each other over. The team is made up of the narcissistic Sterling Archer; his emotionally distant mother, ISIS director Malory Archer; the always-professional Lana Kane, Sterling's former flame; Ray Gillette, the agency's openly gay bomb specialist; HR head Pam Poovey; mild-mannered accountant-turned-agent Cyril Figgis; Cheryl Tunt, Malory's delusional, psychotic personal assistant; and Dr. Algernop Krieger, a bizarre, morally bankrupt scientist with little regard for the well-being of his subjects.
