This long-running series follows the adventures of a team of lifeguards on the crowded beaches of Los Angeles County. Veteran lifeguard Mitch Buchannon watches over the younger lifeguards that come and go with each passing season as they keep the beaches safe for vacationers. Frequently he must take action to save them from the raging seas and from the raging tempers that sometimes flare up between the young guards in this stressful job.

Season 11 - Episode 19 - Aired 4/23/2001
Sean and Leigh are in the scarab off of Maui investigating a new man-made reef that is being put in to lure additional tourists. Neither of them is happy with this new development because it has caused a shift in the rip patterns. Nick, a surfer, is also concerned and, for some reason, isn't feeling quite well. His brother Joe is surfing and tombstones. Sean and Leigh quickly jump into action and bring Joe to the beach. He is unconscious and Nick is nearly hysterical. Sean and Leigh try to get him to wait for the ambulance, but he's too caught up in trying to save his brother. The ambulance arrives and Nick hops in to go to the hospital. In the hospital, Joe is fine but Nick turns out to have pneumonia. Sean and Leigh begin to suspect that there is something wrong with the materials that are being used to create the new reef. To complicate matters, Sam Parks has come back. Sean definitely does not trust Sam, and Leigh is loathe to tell him the truth about Sam's status as a Navy Intell

Sean and Brian have just completed the daring rescue of Matt, a twelve year old boy who had gotten a little too excited with his birthday present: a wind surfboard. The boy is impressed that he was rescued by ""the"" Brian Keaulana. Brian and Sean, meanwhile, are looking over the new computer system, designed by Zack and paid for by Harold Schuster, the center's biggest donor. Brian asks Sean how to use the banner ads at top. He tries to click on one. The system suddenly crashes. With Schuster coming later that afternoon, this is a major disaster. Zack, meanwhile, is with Jason, JD and Kekoa. They are with Schuster's spoiled daughter, Brit, taking her on a hiking trip to the Waimea Valley on Kauai. Both Zack and Jason are hot for Brit, and she makes sure she plays with the two of them. It is a bad day at the beach. A man has lost his Rolex watch and is upset when all Sean offers to do is fill out a report-not investigate everyone at the beach. Mr. Tanaka is in the water, trying to learn how to swim properly. Being the rich and old man that he is, he is impatient with the other people at the beach and is completely unaware of the dangers of being in the water. Kekoa is keeping an eye on him. Suddenly, a loose catamaran starts careening towards him. Everyone shouts at Mr. Tanaka to get out of the way, but he feels that he is an important man who does not need to move. Sensing the danger brewing, fourteen year old Kala'i pulls Mr. Tanaka under the surface of the water. The catamaran glides over them, narrowly missing them. Sean, in a daring move, leaps on the catamaran and with the help of Kekoa is able to stop it. Mr. Tanaka, though, keeps accusing Kala'i of attempting to mug him. A new lifeguard, Dawn, joins the team, but blacks out during a swim. Sean gives her another chance to prove herself by challenging her to an underwater breathing contest, during which she has to come to his rescue. However, Sean was merely testing Dawn, who passed his test and he agrees to let her remain on the team. Dawn is reunited with her past love J.D., who declares their relationship is in the past. Mitch reunites with his foster son Tanner, who watches Mitch and Allie rescue 2 women from their overturned canoe. Tanner befriends a suicidal teenage surfer, who plans on taking her life during a suicidal wave ride. Mitch finds the girl and encourages her to be brave about receiving treatment for her diasease. JD tries out for and makes the America's Cup sailing team, but stays at Baywatch because he made a commitment to the team. Jason makes his first successful rescue when he helps a woman caught in a rip.

When Mitch and Cody have rescued a little girl, it all turns out to be just another training exercise for some kids. While doing this, they are observed by Alex's nephew Timmy. Timmy is a mildly autistic boy who doesn't speak. Timmy loves dolphins and because of that, his mom Valerie is taking him to Hawaii where he can visit Dolphin Quest. Dolphin Quest is an organization that specializes in giving young children extraordinary experience of swimming with dolphins. When Valerie arrives to the beach and tells Alex that she can't get away from work, Mitch convinces Alex to take Timmy there. Cody joins them because he is going to participate in an outrigger race. At the Dolphin Lagoon, Alex and Cody want Timmy to swim with the dolphins together with other kids. But Timmy is afraid of the water. J.D. from Daytona Beach was a rookie at Baywatch years ago. Now he camps on the beach, and Donna tell him to leave the beach. Later she finds out who he is. J.D. has come back to Baywatch to apply for the vacant lieutenant position. It's between him and Taylor Walsh, a smart, confident and ambitious young woman. The Chief has recommended Taylor. Skylar is doing an exercise under the pier when something goes wrong and J.D. has to rescue her. But J.D. becomes paralyzed under the pier and Newmie is forced to rescue Skylar. When Mitch asks what happened, J.D. just tells him that he didn't see Skylar. Later Skylar asks J.D. why he lied to Mitch, and he tells her the truth. It turns out that a man died in his arms two years earlier at Daytona Beach. Later on during a rescue, instead of rescuing himself, J.D. places himself between the victim and the boat. J.D. is knocked out and Mitch has to rescue him while Taylor rescues the man in the boat. Mitch finally has a tough decision to make about

When the Baywatch gang find out that their jobs are in jeopardy due to budget cuts, everyone decide to volunteer as civilian lifeguards. At the same time on the beach, a couple named David and Julia is having a romantic time. When David proposes to Julia, the engagement ring falls into the water. David dives in after the ring, but the onrushing tide forces a rock to fall down on his hand and he is trapped. Meanwhile Matt and Summer are going to have a picnic on the beach when they see Julia on some cliffs. They dive in after David and bring him to safety just in time. When David and Julia arrive to headquarters with Matt and Summer, Mitch gets an idea. Instead of showing the county commissioners just some statistics, they bring some victims to the beach whom they have rescued during the years. The episode starts with Stephanie and Barnett rescuing a diver in trouble. Baywatch hosts the Special Olympics for the first time. The Olympics is held by Mitch's old friend and elite gymnast Mary Lou Retton, who won 5 gold medals in the 1984 Olympics. She asks Mitch to take care of a troubled kid named Darnel while Stephanie to take care of a girl named Sammy. Darnel's father abandoned him when he was a little kid, and Mary Lou has managed to track him down. During a race, Darnel pushes his opponent in order to win and the coach for that team wants Darnel disqualified. Mitch doesn't like his methods because he captures a dog in trouble with his lasso. Stephanie says he doesn't like him, just because they are exact copies of each other. But Mitch tells her there is something else. In 1983, Mitch was in Australia working as a lifeguard. Then he was forced to rescue a surfer named Sheila Gold. Then when the waves were high, Mitch made a big mistake and placed himself between the victim and the pile. He was knocked out cold and Sheila died. He follows as the mystery girl with flowing blonde hair and a knockout body, races down Point Dume Road. But Matt can't catch up with her and she leaves him in the dust. Now Matt is wondering who she is and where she comes from. Then back on the beach, he sees her again. This time, she asks a guy named Hudson if he wants to race her at Point Dume Road. The winner can keep both bikes. He accepts and then he drives away from her with his gang. Later the mysterious girl goes down to the beach and Matt asks her out. They have a wonderful time together, but when Matt wakes up in the morning, she is gone. The next day, when the mysterious girl is leading the race, Hudson throws a chain around her back tire. But their holiday is ruined when a man steals Craig's jeep, while they are surfing. They are forced to walk to a village named Miraflores. Cort has been there several times before. On their way there, Eddie asks the guys several times if they see any scorpions. He is really afraid of them. When they arrive to Miraflores, the villagers don't show any kind of hospitality. Cort wonders why and finds out that a gang of bad guys has been terrorizing the village for quite some time now. Just when a new beachfront hotel named Santa Monica Shores Hotel is about to open, someone is murdering some people. All the witnesses say that he is a freakish looking man. Craig doesn't think the opening of the new hotel and the murders are just a coincidence. Therefore, he does some investigation of his own and finds out that the senator, who will speak at the ceremony, knew all the victims. The victims are Victor Polson whom got killed on his boat and later was recovered in the water by Jill, Arnold Anderson whom got killed at the construction site and Mary Polson whom gets killed on the beach right in front of Craig and Eddie.
