Being a single mom in today's world is a daunting task. For Reba Hart (Reba McEntire), parenthood encompasses not only watching over three kids, but also keeping an eye on a son-in-law, a granddaughter, an ex-husband, and an ex-husband's neurotic wife. 'Reba' began with the Hart family in the midst of a divorce as Texas soccer mom Reba watched her white-picket-fenced world collapse before her very eyes. Her dentist husband, Brock(Christopher Rich), left her after what she thought was 20 happy years of marriage for his impossibly perky and unfortunately pregnant dental hygienist, Barbra Jean (Melissa Peterman). The cherry on top of this bitter sundae was the pregnancy of Reba's then 17-year-old daughter Cheyenne (JoAnna Garcia) and her decision to marry her high school football star boyfriend, Van (Steve Howey). Rounding out the happy brood is teenage Kyra(Scarlett Pomers), who continues to greet puberty with venom, and son Jake (Mitch Holleman).

Reba is ready to ring Barbra Jean's neck after she finds out that the crazy blonde has secretly planned a blind date (guest star Leslie Jordan) for her favorite redhead. To make things even worse, Barbra Jean announces that she and Brock will be coming along on a double date. Meanwhile, Van gets carried away with his bonus money and buys a sports car without including Cheyenne in the big decision.

Reba is happy to find out that she and Kyra are closer than ever since Kyra moved in with Brock and Barbra Jean. Kyra's behavior is driving Brock and Barbra Jean crazy. Meanwhile, Cheyenne's snoring is causing problems for Van.

The entire Hart clan goes into panic mode when Kyra disappears from Brock and Barbra Jean's house in the middle of the night. Meanwhile, an exuberant Van can't understand why Cheyenne is petrified at the thought of appearing with him on a cable sports show, but the tables quickly turn once the cameras start rolling.

Over Brock and Barbra Jean's objections, Reba gives Kyra permission to go on her first date, then discovers the boy is 17 years old. As the three adults panic, they decide to spy on Kyra's date and end up ruining it. Meanwhile, Van believes that Jake is the victim of a classroom injustice and confronts the boy's teacher.

She announces at breakfast that she has a new position as a substitute teacher at the high school. Cheyenne is mortified that her mother's going to be around, but Reba assures her that she put Brock through dental school by teaching and she's always intended to go back to it. Cheyenne won't even know she's there. Reba's first day was full of pranks and mishaps and she absolutely loved it. When she arrives home Brock is waiting. Kyra called him to say that they're turning into latchkey kids and he's concerned that Reba's not home. She assures him that it'll all work out fine. Reba throws a baby shower for Cheyenne. She warns Brock to get the kids something practical, rather than the big screen TV he had planned on buying. At the end of the shower Reba gives Cheyenne a quilt she spent the last 8 months making out of Cheyenne's old baby clothes. Then Brock walks in and hands Cheyenne the keys to a brand new (well, used) car. Reba gets upset because they had a deal with their kids: they get a new car when they can pay for half. Cheyenne and Van need to pay for their half of the car before they can use it. Cheyenne starts doing work around the house and Van takes a job at a pizza place. When Van gets promoted to pizza delivery driver, Reba has to do the driving since Van doesn't technically have a car yet. Exhausted from essentially taking on Van's job, Reba cuts the kids a check for their half of the car and calls it a baby shower gift. #12 - Encounters
Season 3 - Episode 6 - Aired 10/17/2003
Reba finally decides to clean up Kyra's room and send the stuff to her new house. Kyra sees this and suddenly becomes very secretive to Reba. Barbara Jean invites a counselor (Martin Mull) to help Brock and her communicate better. The rest of the family, excluding Jake, joins in on the session at Reba's house. Van feels that Cheyenne thinks he is incapable as a good father.

However, a protective Reba lets Van know she thinks quitting school is a huge mistake. A nervous Van ends up not going to the tryout, which when Reba finds out she tries to get him a second chance. Meanwhile, Cheyenne passes her Dentistry test with a B+.

Barbra Jean takes it upon herself to find the perfect man for Reba by signing her up at an online dating service, but she later regrets her decision when Reba begins dating a mystery man and doesn't have as much time for the her or the family. As a result, Cheyenne and Van realize how much work it takes to care for their daughter without Reba's help, and Barbra Jean and Brock, who wants to make sure he's better looking than Reba's new boyfriend, decide to check out their competition.

A sentimental Brock is so upset to find out that a strapped-for-cash Reba is selling her engagement ring on Ebay that he enters the bidding in an attempt to get the ring back. Meanwhile, Van decides it's time to buy Cheyenne a ring of her own, but is embarrassed when he is forced to choose between a cubic zirconia or a tiny diamond. In hopes of resuscitating her non-existent love life, Reba hits the bar scene with her friend Lori Ann but is mortified when they run into Brock, Barbra Jean, Cheyenne and Van on a double date. Cheyenne finally convinces a reluctant Reba to try speed dating, and everyone is surprised when she actually makes a love connection.

Reba finally comes to terms with Barbara Jean's craziness. Kyra comes to accept that her Dad is not perfect and is human too.

Van comes home late after having a few drinks with his buddies and is feeling a little frisky, but climbs into the wrong bed. Reba wakes and says she has a headache. The next morning he says that his friends are happy for what he has accomplished on their football team and that's why they took him out to celebrate. Reba, Cheyenne and BJ all decide to give him a surprise party to show him that they are proud of him too. Reba gets satellite hooked up, BJ makes a cake, and Cheyenne prepares a speech. After the speech Van blurts out that he has been traded to Denver and Cheyenne freaks out. Brock chases after Van and Reba goes after Cheyenne. Kyra tries to talk sense into Brock and BJ. She says they can't keep arguing. So they start to talk civilly to each other. Reba says the same thing that Kyra says to Van about moving away and leaving his family for football. Van and Cheyenne try to talk things out but Van walks away saying that he has to do this...
#22 - Hello, My Name is Cheyenne
Season 4 - Episode 22 - Aired 5/20/2005
Reba, not only being a mother-in-law but also a boss suggests that Van stops his drinking and go to an AA meeting. Van is furious and demands that Cheyenne tell her parents the truth. Cheyenne decides she will get help and goes to a AA meeting where she comes back excited that she is a alcoholic, blurting out her news to the rest of the family. Reba as the supportive mother decides no one will drink to help Cheyenne. Meanwhile, Kyra and her band are invited to perform at a USO event for soldiers leaving for Iraq. As the family secretly sneaks wine and beer around, Cheyenne is promoting her growth as a non-alcoholic and frowns upon her "using days". Reba later catches Cheyenne having a glass of wine and questions her on it. Cheyenne reveals that her life has been hell for the past year and alcohol is the only thing that has been helping her and she is scared and doesn't know what to do. Reba tells her that she is not alone and we end with a tearful hug.
#23 - Spies Like Reba

Barbra Jean becomes suspicious about Kyra's secretiveness and convinces Reba to hack in to Kyra's e-mail account. Barbra Jean and Reba discover that Kyra is planning to go to an unsupervised party and possibly go to the next level with a boy. Brock, Barbra Jean, and Reba all want to prevent Kyra from making the same mistake as Cheyenne so they stake out the party.

Cheyenne and Reba argue over whether or not Cheyenne should do laundry and grocery shopping. Cheyenne returns from ""grocery shopping"" with no bags, but an application for an apartment that she and Van found. The only problem is they don't have the money to support themselves. Cheyenne asks Reba and Brock for money and they turn her down. She then tells Van to ask his parents. After all, they must be over the whole wedding thing by now and feeling guilty on top of it. Van returns with a new truck and his parents offer for them to move in. Van and Cheyenne pack up and are ready to move to the Montgomery's house. When they take over their first load of stuff in their new truck Van's father asks to speak with him alone. The Montgomerys make it clear that they asked Van to move in, not Cheyenne. When Reba decides to pursue a career in real estate after losing her current job, Brock reluctantly agrees to let Reba handle the sale of his precious condo. Unfortunately, the situation gets a little sticky when Reba receives a great offer, but Brock refuses to sell, validating Barbra Jean's concern that Brock is holding on to his bachelor pad as a security blanket. Meanwhile, Van begrudgingly chaperones Kyra so she can perform with her band at a club, but Van quickly changes his tune when he sees real talent in Kyra and offers to manage the band.
