Janine appears back at the Vic and tells Dan she felt ill then rubs her body against him as he goes past. Then she tells him to come upstairs with her - she thought he liked young girls, Bianca was good enough. Dan cites Frank, and Janine says "try me."

Jeff looks downcast and Mark says he tried to warn him. Steve says she's just playing hard to get. Melanie snaps at him. Jeff takes his bunch of flowers off to see Pauline. He goes to Pauline's house, and she says he showed her up in front of everyone. Pauline says it was a bolt from the blue - he should have said something. Jeff says he did it the way she specified, she made it clear that the only way their relationship would move on was through marriage, so he kept his distance, showed respect, did it her way. Pauline says she wants to stay as they are - as friends.

Jeff writes a speech for Pauline's proposal. Melanie questions the wisdom of doing it in front of the whole Square. Martin is slow getting to breakfast, and Ashley unscrews the salt pot top and puts it down as Martin arrives, wearing a shirt that Pauline gave him for his birthday. Ashley smirks "nice shirt" as Martin sits down, shakes the salt pot and gets the whole lot over his breakfast. He accuses Ashley who acts innocent.

Rosa whinges to Irene about Nicky making such a fuss about the boy putting his arm around her in the club. Irene mentions that she took a sneak look at the Kama Sutra video and it was quite tastefully done. Ethel annoys Martin by telling him that it doesn't seem two minutes ago she was changing his napkin. She decides to make a birthday cake for Martin, but this involves instructing Dot exactly what to do, especially to be careful with the mixing bowl, as she was with Lou when she bought it. Jeff invites Irene to the Vic next Monday for a "surprise" party for Pauline. He tries to ask Ethel advice about Pauline, but Pauline arrives back.

Sandra plans a surprise 30th birthday party for Beppe. Ethel has gone missing. Irene has gone off sex so Terry takes some advice from Jim. Nicky gets upset when someone chats her up at Beppe's party.

Ian arrives in a very expensive new convertible, and tells Steve it's not every day that you get £10,000 for doing nothing. Steve says all he needs now is a tasty blonde next to him. Ian says he's happy as he is thanks, and Steve says he swapped his wife for £10,000 and he's happy?! Ian parks it and the alarm keeps going off. He shows it off to Laura, who says it's OK if you like that sort of thing and asks how he afforded it. Ian says HP - £35,000, but only £10,000 deposit. He phones up and moans to the garage about the alarm not working.

Beppe tells Rosa that they'll have to tell the police. Nicky eavesdrops. They all have a long discussion, and Nicky goes to a payphone to phone the police. Their solicitor advises Rosa to drop the charges. Robbie asks Jamie how his date went and Jamie says it was OK.

Mark goes to complain to Ian, who says he told Pauline to get financial advice, and thought she had. Mark tells him just to give her the £5,000 back. Ian is in a hurry and asks Laura where his keys are. She says, "on the bedside table, I mean your bedside table." Phil goes to see Jamie and says Billy's scared of him now. He shouts over to Billy and Jamie asks him not to tell anyone, as he's not proud of it. Steve chats Melanie up again and gives her a pair of earrings, saying he thought of her in Brighton this weekend. She says she'll put them with the others and that she is busy sorting out the house for Jeff's return.

Billy takes some eggs that Jamie just bought, and Jamie objects, so Billy stamps on them. Lisa has a go at him for not bringing back the breakfast and Jamie storms out. She mentions it to Phil and says Billy may be giving him a hard time. Jamie goes to Robbie to ask for some money and Robbie offers him toast instead and Robbie asks why Jamie has such a problem with Billy and doesn't stand up to him. Jamie hints that Billy beats him up, and Robbie says he'll go round and sort him out. Phil goes to see Billy and tells him to keep away from Jamie. Phil asks Steve if he's thought any more about the health club, and Steve offers him £10,000, and Phil asks for £12,000. Billy goes to threaten Jamie for telling Phil, and smashes up a lot of crockery from his stall. Jamie is upset and Sonia comes to ask him if he's OK, and he pushes her away.

Billy grabs money from Jamie, then says he's "borrowing" it. Beppe tries to ask a friend in the police force to let Gianni off lightly, but with no luck. Phil asks Steve about Dan and Steve says it's sorted. Phil buys him a drink, saying they'll have to get him a sheriff's badge. Phil asks Steve if he wants to buy his share of the health club. Steve agrees to think about it. Steve asks Melanie for a drink, saying he has some vintage champagne but no one to share it with in the club. Melanie asks exactly what Steve said to Dan, and he tells her to come over and maybe she'll find out.

Gianni has been charged with GBH and drink driving, and a journalist arrives. Rod has three broken ribs and a fractured cheekbone and Beppe drives them away at top speed. Nicky asks Rosa how Rod is and Rosa asks her why she should care. Nicky says she wants to go to school to get back to normal. Sonia is out jogging and returns to find the policewoman there. She says she won't say anything against Nicky, but admits that she saw Nicky before she went to the lesson and she was wearing a brand new skirt. Sonia tells Nicky that the police came round, and Sonia tells her she shouldn't have worn that new skirt. She says the police were asking about her boyfriends, and Nicky says she hasn't got one. Sonia says we all know why that is - all she's been going on about for weeks is her teacher.

Laura is in the kitchen preparing breakfast in bed for Ian. Ian spoils it when he comes downstairs and tells her he has to be at the building site by 8am and hasn’t got time. Steve gives his keys to Melanie, telling her that she’ll be safe in his house. He goes to the club, where he opens a letter he’s received. It contains a torn-up cheque from Barbara Owen. The di Marcos are shocked to see the story on the front page of the Walford Gazette - "Walford teacher on sex charge." For Gianni, honour is at stake and he wants revenge, but Beppe warns him not to take the law into his own hands. When Nicky comes in, she tells her mum that she can’t face school. Sonia joins Nicky in Giuseppe’s and suggests that she must have led Rod on. Nicky denies it and asks Sonia to leave. She can’t believe that her best friend has taken Rod’s side.

Laura encourages Ian to buy a new convertible. He takes Laura to see the new flats and she asks what he's doing with all this money. He suggests a European holiday and invites Laura along. She's amazed and thrilled and jumps at the chance. She offers advice about interior design and Ian shrugs and says it sounds OK. He gets a call to say there's an offer on one of the flats, and hugs Laura, which makes her look very awkward and guilty. Janine gossips to Asif that Jamie and Sonia were about to kiss and they tease Sonia. They tease Jamie, who says he's not going out with her, and they say of course, he doesn't want to be seen out with a fat girl! She's hiding around the corner eavesdropping.

Rosa tells Gianni to get Beppe and he asks Nicky exactly what happened. She says Rod touched her and snivels a bit, and Beppe says they must go to the police. Nicky refuses and Rosa says that they will do whatever Nicky wants and it will not be discussed outside the house. Gianni is keen on finding Rod's house and beating him up. Beppe tries again and says she has to report what happened, and trying to ignore it won't allow Nicky to get on with her life. Beppe asks Nicky if she wants Rod to pay for what he did. Nicky looks doubtful. Rosa answers the door to say she won't be coming to school today. Sonia tells Kim that it's obvious Nicky is skiving to avoid telling them she didn't get the snog she wanted from Rod. They get a policewoman to talk to Nicky and Beppe encourages her to talk so Rod won't be free to do it to some other little girl. Nicky agrees to talk. Two women interview her with Rosa present.

Ian can't wait to get out of bed with Laura, who thanks him for last night. Teresa refuses to go with Rosa, saying her stall is here. Rosa packs and Gianni hears he has to go to court about his drink driving charge next month. Beppe arrives and says he can't go because this is Joe's home. However, he does persuade Teresa to go anyway. Irene brings her some wind chimes as a souvenir. Rosa says she's never been happy here anyway, but that Irene must live her life. They all hug everyone and say goodbye.

Ian is panicking and Robbie asks him what time the cars are due. Ian tells him it's up to him to sort his cars out - he's got 3 chauffeur driven Bentleys. Robbie tells Barry, and suggests that he can get Roy to lend them a car. He goes over to Pat's and drinks several large whiskies. He also realises he hasn't got a ring! Roy tells Pat to take off hers and hands over both of them. Barry thanks him profusely. Barry is dressed in a white tail suit and top hat.

Barry is baking his wedding cake and tells Natalie "there's nothing to it." Later he runs into the restaurant and asks Rosa if she has a piping bag he can borrow. She looks at his apron, covered in flour, and asks if he has had some sort of accident. He runs back home and then back again a few minutes later with a spoon and asks if it is a tablespoon. Rosa says no - it's a dessert spoon - and Barry despairs as all his measurements have been wrong!

Melanie tells Jeff the wedding's off and that things just aren't right with her and Ian. Jeff is sympathetic. He goes to tell Pauline. Ian goes to tell Barry and Natalie that he has arranged the joint wedding. Natalie asks why he changed his mind. Barry tells Natalie to shut up and Ian makes the excuse that Lucy's test results are due today. So, they all agree.

Dan lets himself into the Vic. Janine looks at him and tells him it will be good to have a real man about the place. Peggy says he has no right to be here, but Dan says he bought it fair and square. Peggy asks how much and he says five pounds and has paperwork to prove it! Dan explains he is now half owner of the Vic, and "We're all in this together and we should just try and get on with it." Ricky is furious that Frank "let him in" and storms out and tells Dan that he took his wife and he's trying to take his home. Dan says it's not about Ricky and tells Frank and Peggy he will be back at opening time. Lisa arrives and asks Phil if he was going to explain and he apologises about Christmas. He says he will make it up to her.

Peggy runs out telling Frank she's been humiliated. Frank asks her what they are going to do - Ian thinks the place is his. Phil sits around at home and then suddenly realises that Jamie is having a terrible time, and asks him what he wants to do - they can do anything. Jamie asks if he can open his presents.

Rosa is working herself mad with the Christmas dinner to impress the Mitchells. Beppe and Gianni drop harmless jokes, which she doesn't find too amusing. They persuade her to take a rest, but it doesn't last long and Nicky is frustrated that they aren't celebrating for her birthday. Rosa promises to make it up to her.

Dan picks up the post and there's a large envelope for Phil. Steve gets one Christmas card in total - from Jeff! Jackie asks him to come to the di Marcos with her. He refuses, saying he's booked into a nice hotel on the coast, with a swimming pool and jacuzzi. As he walks out, the phone rings and it's a message from his solicitor asking him to ring on a very important matter.

Ricky has looked everywhere for Janine and Frank is worrying. Janine is hiding in Jamie's bed. Jamie says he has to go to work and if Frank finds her there he'll be dead. Frank is on his way to Jamie's to have a word. Roy suggests that Frank would only make matters worse in his current state, and Roy says he will go over to have a word to Jamie first. They are leaving Phil's and Janine sits on the steps and as Roy goes past she starts pretending to cry. At Frank's Peggy asks if anyone has ever talked to Janine about contraception. Frank gets huffy and asks if she is blaming him.

Dan mentions that Kathy came and Phil goes to see her but is offhand towards her. Ian begs Melanie to help out in the shop because they're busy at Christmas. She says no because she's working in the Vic. Ian sulks, but asks Kathy to do it instead, and she agrees just to make the point to Melanie that she is prepared to put herself out to help Ian.

Kathy is back again. Her first observation is of Melanie kissing Steve in the Square. Ben wanders off. Kathy finally notices and starts looking for him, and Steve brings him back. Steve mentions the stag do, and says it was eventful, as Natalie changed her mind about getting married. Kathy is extremely frosty to Melanie when she meets her, and when Melanie tells Ian about Natalie, Kathy mentions she heard it from one of the stags. Ian asks who, and Kathy describes a handsome man with piercing blue eyes and Ian shouts at Melanie that she didn't tell him Steve was there. Melanie points out that she wasn't responsible for inviting the men to Barry's stag do!
