Created by former Nickelodeon artist Jim Jinkins in 1990 and produced through Jinkins' production company, Jumbo Pictures Inc., Doug follows the life of an average kid named Doug Funnie. Doug and his family have just moved from their former residence in Bloatsburg, to the new town of Bluffington. There he meets Skeeter, Patti, Roger and Beebe, and his new life in a new town begins! Doug writes in his journal and sometimes even imagines himself as a superhero named Quailman to help him out with situations and decisions.

There's a new girl in town named Loretta Lequiqly who says she is from Yakestonia and can speak the language. Loretta catches Skeeter's eye and Doug is convinced that Loretta is a liar, and Skeeter is beliveing everything she says. So Doug asks Fentruck to try and catch Loretta in a lie.

Doug and his friends are on the team Patti's Pulverizers, and they are on top when it comes to winning games. But all of the parents, including Doug's dad, think it's unfair that only Patti gets to pitch and they want their own kids to pitch. But after the parents have their way, they realize that it may not be a good idea.

Mr. Dink volunteers Doug to dress up as the Big Honkerburger and talk to kids in costume at the Honker Burger for a week. Roger asks Doug to take care of his cat, Stinky, while he goes on a trip. Stinky not only rips up the Funnie home but also eats all the junk food in the house and gets sick. Doug rushes him to the vet, hoping he'll be OK. But when Doug gets there, he finds out Stinky isn't a "he."

But when Mr. Sully only lets one customer into his shop at a time for security reasons, Doug decides what is right for everyone.
