Ch. Insp. Conway and a team of Sun Hill officers undergo riot simulation training at the Met's training depot in Hounslow. Meanwhile, DC Glaze goes undercover at the Cockroft Estate and discovers two rival families battling for control of the estate, and stockpiling weapons for a showdown.
Eddie Santini is on trial for the murder of Jessica Orton. As the case continues, employees of Mr Sherman are eliminating the key witnesses, including John Ferguson and Rosie Fox. The jury finds Eddie not guilty, and he is released, but is murdered in his flat by his friend from the Drugs Squad, DS Paul Timpney.
DS Don Beech is bribed by 'businessman' Howard Fallon to find who hijacked one of his lorries. DS Geoff Daly is suspicious when Beech tries to get involved with the investigation.
A series of dawn raids captures most of the Britannia gang, but Julian Napper and Gary Hughes are still at large. With Napper on the loose, Chandler and Meadows insist Webb go into hiding, but he refuses to be intimidated, even when Lennox's wife's car goes up in flames. Webb convinces Gary Hughes to tell him where "The Nap" is, but Napper still manages to stay one step ahead of the police every time. Chandler and Morys begin to suspect that Webb is the one informing Napper of their movements, but Riley and Quinnan's investigations turn up the FIU's DS John Curtis as Napper's brother-in-law and the informant. Webb then races to Napper's hideout to try and save Hughes.
G-Wing is gripped with fear that the poisoner may strike again. The women are desperate to work out who is responsible and it isn't long before all eyes fall on Tanya. When Tina reveals it is her, as she gave out the hootch, Phyl and Bev are desperate to keep out of the frame and out of Natalie's way when she gets nasty. With PC Quinnan in a critical condition in St Hugh's Hospital, the police descend on the Jasmine Allen estate, determined to catch those responsible. PC Garfield manages to identify most of the gang, and a young boy, Kevin White, bought in for questioning names them as the 'Sun Hill Massive'. Garfield and DS Boulton come to blows when Boulton denies any responsiblity for the attack on Quinnan. Acting on a tip-off, the police raid Mick Glover's flat again, finding he is responsible for the burgleries, and that his son Ben and Kevin White were the ones who stabbed Quinnan.
DI Deakin leads CID and Uniform on a series of disasterous raids to catch alleged DSS fraudsters, while PC Polly Page is given the boring task of serving a court order. As she does so, she hears scratching at the wall from the house next door, which they believe is a trapped dog. With the help of the RSPCA, they force entry and discover a young Spanish woman named Lola imprisoned in a hidden cellar. The owner of the house, Ricky Lee, insists that Lola is a fugitive from a Dutch prison who stowed away in his van and took refuge in his house. When Lola disappears from the hospital, Page and DC Kerry Holmes pay Ricky Lee another visit. Page is suspicious and asks to see the cellar again, but Lee attacks them. Once subdued, they find Lola in the cellar once again, and it looks as if Lee was planning to kill her.
The pressure rises for Stacey. Carmel is given an ultimatum.
Stacey and Martin anxiously wait for news. Kush demands answers from Carmel. Mick realises all is not well with Linda.
Stacey struggles to come to terms with what has happened. Kush comes to a worrying realisation about recent events. Linda fears the worst.

Mavis receives a Valentine's card. Mavis is shocked when Derek tells here he didn't send the card. Victor is embarrassed to discover Derek knows he sent the card to Mavis. Mike advertises for workers, he takes Josie on, but Gail is annoyed by the way Mike has taken over the café flat. Des and Steph go on their honeymoon to Majorca. Martin get a job as a porter in Weatherfield General and Felicity Khan tells Rita she is worried about Jenny's state of mind.
Alma spends the day supervising the machinists and Gail is harassed with martin at the hospital and Alma in the machine room. Gail threatens to sell out of the café unless Alma finds help at the café. Flick get no response from Jenny and Rita goes off to see Jenny. Victor takes Mavis to lunch whilst Derek is working, but Derek finds out about Mavis's lunch with Victor.

New W.P.C. Rosie Fox is partnered with P.C. Eddie Santini to investigate when the body of a junkie is washed up on the banks of the Thames. Santini and Fox argue over their cases, and it seems their working relationship will not be a smooth one. Santini reckons graduate Fox will not be able to handle the pressure when she goes undercover as a prostitute in a CID operation, then nearly ruins the operation when he finds himself attracted to her. Celebrating a successful arrest, the two share a drunken snog back at the station, but moments later Santini forces himself on Fox in the locker room, leaving her confused and frightened.

Vicki Hagen finds Eddie Santini's tickets to Amsterdam, and questions him about them, but he is evasive. DCI Pallister takes DS Fox off the Jessica Orton case after her accusations against Santini, but she decides to do some investigation of her own. Santini, meanwhile, acquires a gun and some Class-A drugs to plant in Ferguson's boss's house when DS Timpney and the Area Drugs Squad raid it. Fox stumbles upon the house and is captured by Ferguson. His boss Mr Sherman is displeased that Santini allowed a police officer to find them. When Area Drugs arrive at Sun Hill for the raid, CID realise that both Santini and Fox are in trouble. Sure enough, Ferguson's radio scanner warns him of the forthcoming raid and he locks Santini in the same room as Fox. The two argue, but are pulled apart when Santini attacks Fox. She manages to escape, and Sherman's men are intercepted by SO19. Back at Sun Hill, Fox realises the keys in Hagen's possession are Jessica Orton's - and she arrests Santini for murder.
Garfield is anxious to know where he stands with Jenny; Quinnan is behaving strangely, and seems to have something to hide.
Crime fighting takes a back seat as Quinnan and Garfield clash.
