In 1993 we follow the young magistrate Saverio Barone while he reports his boss colluded with the mafia to the CSM and enters into contact with the DIA that may lead him to a new career. At the same time Tony Calvaruso has just been released from prison and finds a job as a driver for the boss of the Corleonese family Leoluca Bagarella.

After Saverio is transferred to Trentino, a castle where retired administrators stay. It's the right place to relax and spend some time with the family but for Saverio Barone, staying away from work and hunting for Vitale is impossible. Just as it is difficult to mend relations with Giada and Carlotta, who rejects affection and barely speaks to him, Saverio just has to beg Elia to return with him to Palermo.

PM Saverio Barone is in the sights of the mobster Vito Vitale. For this reason, he has been living for months in a bunker in the basement of the Palermo prosecutor's office, without seeing his ex-wife Giada but above all without being able to see his daughter Carlotta. There is also another reason why the magistrate isolated himself; to work on the secret investigation into Pietro Aglieri and Bernardo Provenzano who entrusted him with his boss Elia. The two mafiosi represent a new mafia, able to infiltrate offices and ministries, and for this reason are much more dangerous than the "massacre" wing of the Cosa Nostra.

Saverio has found the strength to leave the prosecutor's bunker. The most difficult challenge, however, must be faced when Giada entrusts Carlotta to him for a few days. Navigating in a delicate balance between work and family life, Saverio still manages to bring home a great result: he has discovered that "il Biondo" will be present at a meeting against the mafia. Elia, who works as an infiltrator to identify their target, was also invited to the event.

Aglieri is determined to avenge David's death by killing Bernardo Provenzano. The elderly and experienced boss, however, sensing his intentions, approaches him, surprising him, that it is his political contacts in Rome that protect him. Meanwhile, Saverio and his team have identified the area where Aglieri is hiding, but it is too large a territory.

The hunt for Vito Vitale comes alive: by exploiting his lover, the pastry chef Elisa. Saverio sets a trap for the mafia boss, managing to get to his hiding place. Vitale's arrest, however, is only a brief interlude of serenity, because Saverio immediately closes himself in the bunker, obsessed with the secret investigation into Aglieri and Provenzano.

Saverio Barone enters the Direzione Investigativa Antimafia (DIA) and because of his arrogance and ambitions is meeting with some hostilities from the more experienced magistrates of the team. He still has to prove his skills to them and to himself. In the meantime the boss Bagarella orders Brusca to keep the kidnapped Di Matteo's child alive as an hostage and force a recant to the authorities.

Saverio is engaged in the hunt for the drug trafficking boss Pasquale Cuntrera, joined by Nicola Calipari. The two discover a lead on the fugitive in Fuengirola, in southern Spain, and go there immediately. There, together with Nicola, Saverio caresses, for the first time in a long time, a freedom that is no longer granted to him in Sicily

Carlo and Saverio start a head to head challenge to locate Brusca, while their lives keep falling apart. In the meantime, Enzo tries to get away from Giovanni's manipulative manners.

The hunter has understood that Provenzano represents the past while Aglieri is the real danger for the future.
