Ku'damm 56 is a drama miniseries which tells the story of the family Schöllack in Berlin, Germany in the 1950s. Caterina Schöllack runs a prestigious dance school in Berlin. Her main concerns are marrying off her three daughters--Monika, Eva, and Helga--to wealthy or well-established gentlemen and keeping the traditions in her dance school 'Galant'. But one daughter, Monika, struggles with adulthood and her role as a woman in this time; she is fascinated by a whole new world with quiffs, leather jackets, petticoats and American rock'n'roll.
While Eva and Helga have to choose between their feelings and social standing, Monika continues to emancipate herself from her mother with the help of rock 'n' roll. Against Caterina's will, she even enforces a rock 'n' roll course in the dance school, which is very successful. Then Monica gets pregnant. Caterina suggests a way out in which Joachim Franck should play a role. But Monica hesitates.
Monika continues to immerse herself in the world of rock 'n' roll, while her mother Caterina still wants her to marry Joachim Franck and promises Monika a date. Although Monika discovers another side of Joachim, she makes it clear to him that she no longer wants to see him. Meanwhile, Helga realizes that her marriage to Wolfgang is causing serious problems, and Eva becomes closer to a patient's husband.
