Hoping to ride the crest of its success with Dallas, CBS spun off this series featuring the black sheep of the Ewing Family, Gary Ewing. Gary was a weakened reformed alcoholic who had deserted his wife Valene Ewing, and then remarried her and moved to Southern California to escape the formidable nature of life with the Ewings in Dallas. All the equals in this series lived on the same cul-de-sac in the quiet little community of Knots Landing. In addition to being neighbors, their lives intertwined in other ways. Gary worked for Sid Fairgate, owner of Knots Landing Motors, the local classic car dealership. Sid and his wife Karen Fairgate had three teenage children: Eric Fairgate, Michael Fairgate, and Diana Fairgate. The other two couples on the cul-de-sac were young recording executive Kenny Ward and his attractive wife, Ginger, and Richard and Laura Avery.

Season 3 - Episode 22 - Aired May 6, 1982
Richard tries to get his job back, and they call Laura to bring him home. While there, she sees a suicide note in the garbage, and decides to move back in. Val's publisher changes the name of her book to "Capricorn Crude", and hires Joe to be the editor. Val asks Gary to go to her publishing party, but he says no because he's mad about the book. At lunch, Karen and Lilimae see Abby and Gary coming out of an apartment together. Lilimae tells Gary she saw this and will tell Val if he won't go with her to the party. Gary agrees to go to the party, but that night he's at the apartment with Abby, who won't let him leave. At the party, Val's very upset about Gary not showing up. Karen leaves and Val sees her and follows. Karen goes to the apartment and bangs on the door until Gary and Abby finally let her in. The door is open and Val walks in and sees what's going on. Season 6 - Episode 15 - Aired Jan 17, 1985
Mac shows a tape of the Tidal Basin murders to Lila Maxwell's roommate who recognizes Scott Easton and tells Mac he worked for Galveston Ind. Then Karen recognizes one of the men as John Woodside, one of Galveston's aides. Greg tells Laura that his father, Sumner, died as a pilot in the Korean war. Then Galveston showed up at his house, and Greg discovered that his mother and Galveston had been having an affair for years. Then Galveston told Greg that he was really his father. Abby flies to Shula and asks Val to level with her about if she is going to come home. Val doesn't recognize her and thinks that Abby is crazy. Parker overhears and researches Val in the library, and knows that she is really Valene Ewing. Parker asks Val to marry him, and she says yes. Gary tells Abby that Galveston called and said he needed to tell him something about her so Abby tells him that she found Val. Gary catches the first flight to Tennessee.

Joshua's ego is getting really big. Joshua tells Cathy she needs to mend her ways and sing in church, not in a bar, and he breaks up with her. Abby's worried that Mac will find out her connection with the babies. Galveston has Jamison and Whiteside sign a confession for Lila Maxwell's murder. A man gets into Mac's car and tells him that he's not aiming high enough in his investigation of Galveston. Gary continues to try and convince Val that she is not Verna. Val makes plans for her wedding, and imagines dancing with Gary in her wedding dress. Gary shows Val her picture on the back of "Nashville Junction". Parker's worried when Val is late for the wedding. She's in her room, staring at her picture on the book cover. Val finally goes to the church. Gary barges in and interrupts the ceremony. Parker wants the Minister to continue, but Gary insists he is going to bring Val home to California.

Season 6 - Episode 24 - Aired Mar 28, 1985
Joshua bullies Cathy over wedding plans, and Cathy doesn't show up for the rehearsal. Ben tells Karen to stop feeding Val's fantasy that the twins could be alive, and Mac takes Karen's side and says that maybe they are alive. Nurse Wilson calls Ackerman and tells him to keep Karen away from her. Greg and Gary argue over environmental concerns for Empire Valley. Greg changes Gary's credit report, and a lot of Gary's investors back out. Greg offers to buy Gary out. Laura finds out what Greg did and threatens to tell Gary. A lawyer calls Gary and says that Galveston left him all the land in Empire Valley. The boys want to sell Knots Landing Motors, but Karen won't as it was Sid's dream for them. They tell her it's Sid's dream but not theirs, and they don't like working there. Karen and Eric go to Sid's grave, and Karen says Sid just wanted him to be happy, so she'll hire a new manager.

Gary tells Greg he will be part of Empire Valley, and then lies to Mac, telling him it's a legitimate business. Dr. Ackerman won't talk to Karen, so Mac tells her he'll help her to get evidence. Val sneaks out of Ben's, and then cancels dates with him. Ben's frustrated, and Val tells Karen she's trying to act normal, but feels like she's going crazy because she knows the babies are alive. Karen hires Eric to be the Assistant General Manager at Lotus Point. Abby tells Greg about Scott Easton and the babies, and tells Greg she needs the missing notebook pages. He gives her some pages, but they don't have the information on them. Greg goes to the Fishers and watches them from his car. Ruth makes snide comments to Laura about Greg spending so much time with Abby, and tells Greg that she likes Abby much better.

Season 6 - Episode 30 - Aired May 23, 1985
Greg keeps trying to call Laura, who hangs up on him. He follows her and explains that it was a stunt Ruth set up, so he kicked her out. Greg asks Laura to marry him, but she says she's already married. The police question Karen about Ackerman, while Mac goes to his office and finds Val's file. He sets the alarm off, and is arrested. After Mac is out, they find a list in the file that has the name couples who illegally adopted babies, but there are no addresses on the list. One name on the list - Harry Fisher - rings a bell. The next day at work Karen tells Gary the babies are alive. Mac remembers that he and Ben were at the Fisher's house, and they had twins. Mac calls Karen and tells her to meet him there. Gary goes with her. Harry Fisher rushes home and tells his wife Sheila to pack, that they have to leave on a vacation now. Paige accepts a job at Lotus Point. Anne asks Karen to arrange for her to live at Lotus Point. Greg and Laura disagree about her having the baby, so she moves back to the cul-de-sac. Abby opens a nightclub at Lotus Point. Peter asks Abby to the opening, but tells Paige it is only for PR purposes. Ben refuses to kill Greg, and Jean says she'll kill his family. After someone tries to run Val off the road, Ben tells her that he was part of a subversive group that bombed a building and an innocent man was killed. Ben says they want him to kill Greg. Ben and Val decide to run away. Val won't tell Lilimae what is up. Ben is being followed, and steals a car to lose them. Val, Lilimae, and the kids follow Ben's plan to meet him secretly. As they drive away, Jean pulls up next to them in her car.

Johnny wants to blackmail Paige for helping her with her fake death, but she tells him everyone already knows. Mack invites Johnny to stay with them, much to Paige's chagrin. While Karen is out of town, Meg gets really sick. Pat comes to the rescue and tells the hospital what's wrong in medical terminology. Mack asks if she's a nurse, but she says no, the same thing happened to Julie. Paige tells Greg about what happened, and he and Mack stay with Meg at the hospital. Greg sings to her. Karen rushes back, and Greg and the McKenzies realize what a bond Mac and Karen have to Meg. Meg is okay. Judith comes to town, and Abby is upset that Charles jumps at her every command. Judith tells Abby he will never leave her, and Charles packs to go home with Judith. Abby is really angry. At the last minute, Charles decides not to go home, and asks Abby to marry him.

Season 9 - Episode 23 - Aired Mar 24, 1988
Val is excited and prepares for Ben's return. Paige tells Greg she likes him and he says she must be joking. During a meeting, Manny is taken with Karen and flirts with her. Abby tells Karen to use this to get a better deal from Manny. Mac isn't jealous until he sees Manny. Harold and Olivia declare their love, but he says they can't sleep together until they're married, and he proposes. Abby is furious, and tells Manny she'll back out of the deal if he doesn't stop Harold. Abby calls Gary to help with Olivia, and a drunken Jill is furious. Paige agrees to go to Mexico with Johnny, and Harold and Olivia decide to go with so they can elope. Jill works out a deal for the little old lady forger, and has the woman write another letter to Val from "Ben".

Season 9 - Episode 24 - Aired Mar 31, 1988
Gary confronts Jill on her drinking, and calls her sick when she tries to get him to drink with her. Karen is shocked when Manny tries to kiss her. In Mexico, Paige meets Debby, an archeology student, who tells them of a pre-Colombian dig. Paige tells Greg she can get him statues, and he agrees to finance it. Paige is upset to find Johnny in bed with Debbie, but they make up. Manny sends a goon to Mexico to stop the wedding. Harold breaks up with Olivia, blaming it on his uncle. Harold tells her his uncle is dangerous, and he can't cross him. Olivia goes home and cries on Abby's shoulder, and Abby agrees to talk to Manny about letting Harold date Olivia. Olivia goes to Harold, and Manny knocks on the door so he hides her in the closet. Manny tells him he has to leave, as Abby said if he doesn't send Harold packing, Abby will back out of the yacht deal. Olivia hears the entire conversation.

Season 9 - Episode 25 - Aired Apr 7, 1988
Gary sees Manny unloading a yacht in the middle of the night, and thinks it's suspicious. He tells Mac who asks Frank to investigate. Jill apologizes to Gary, and he says he'll give her another chance. Jill edits an old news tape of Ben's, and then leaves a message on Val's answering machine that says "Hi, it's Ben. God I've missed you and the kids. I want to, I hope you can hear me, this phone system is..." then Jill cuts it off. When she hears it, Val's elated. Olivia tells Karen about Abby breaking her and Harold up. Karen tells Abby she knows. Olivia is too controlled, which worries Abby. Olivia starts giving away her posessions, and gives Manny a letter for Harold that says how much she loves him, and she'll think of him at the end. Manny shows Abby, who thinks Olivia will commit suicide.

Season 9 - Episode 26 - Aired Apr 14, 1988
In Mexico, Johnny has orders from Manny to make sure the archaeological dig doesn't stop highway construction. Paige wants the highway stopped to find art. Hoping to stop it, she buries one of Greg's pre-Colombian statues for the students to dig up. Johnny sets the encampment on fire. Karen's furious that Mack is checking out Manny, and thinks it's out of jealousy. Frank tells Mack that the yachts are a front for bringing cocaine in from Mexico, but they don't have enough proof to hold up in court. Val listens to the tape from Ben over and over. Jill steals the key to Val's house and replaces the tape with a blank one. Olivia is found passed out at Harold's after overdosing on pills. Abby's very upset and waits at the hospital with Karen and Gary. Olivia wakes up and screams for Abby to get out. They doctor tells Abby that it's better if she doesn't visit Olivia.

Season 9 - Episode 27 - Aired Apr 28, 1988
Paige invites Michael to Mexico. Manny instructs Johnny to send Paige home because she's causing delays, but she won't leave. The piece of art is found, and declared a fake. Angry, Paige decides to go to a reporter. Manny tells his men to kill everyone at the site, and to make it look like it was done by Mexicans. The police tell everyone at Lotus Point to act natural as they investigate Manny. Then the police halt the investigation, saying Manny works for the government in covert operations. Olivia goes home, but refuses to speak to Abby. Jill calls Val and plays another tape of Ben and hangs up. Val plays "Ben's" tape to Gary, but it's blank. Jill convinces Gary that Val's probably going crazy and might be suicidal. Dropping off the twins, Jill overhears Val tell neighbors that she is so wound up about Ben that her doctor prescribed sleeping pills, but she won't get them. Jill steals the prescription and gets it filled.

Season 9 - Episode 28 - Aired May 5, 1988
Mack doesn't believe Manny works for the government, and finds out he is a gun runner. Gary and Abby decide to come up with a plan.In Mexico, strange things happen on the site so the director closes it down. Paige talks to the reporter, and as the reporter drives away, her car blows up. Pat invites Val to watch videos and says she'll send Julie over to baby-sit after dinner. Jill tells Gary she is going to a conference in San Francisco. Wearing a disguise, she buys a junket car and hides a gun in it. On the plane and at the conference, Jill introduces herself to lots of people. She seduces a man named David, and slips a pill into his drink. She takes him to her room where he passes out. Jill undresses him and messes up the bed. She calls Gary, then tells the hotel operator to hold her calls until the next morning. Jill flies back to Los Angeles and dons another disguise. She drives to Val's in the junket car, and lets herself into the house.
#15 - The Perfect Crime
Season 9 - Episode 29 - Aired May 12, 1988
Paige and Michael find out that Johnny is working for Manny, and their friend Chavas is a DEA agent. They get on a bus. The Federales stop the bus and take Paige, Michael and Chavas. Abby and Gary fill all the slips in the marina so that Manny can't dock his boat. Manny calls Karen and says she'd better do something about it if she wants Paige and Michael to return safely from Mexico. Jill, in disguise, surprises Val. She says the letters and calls from Ben were a hoax, and she had the forger write a suicide note for Val that says Val found out Ben is dead. Julie and Frank come to the door, and Val nervously says she has to stay home because Betsy's sick. Frank remarks to Pat that Val acted strangely, like she was being held at gunpoint. Jill forces Val to take sleeping pills saying if she doesn't, she'll shoot Val, and it's better if the twins find her asleep rather than with her brains splattered all over the room. #16 - Borderline
Season 10 - Episode 2 - Aired Nov 3, 1988
Paige and Michael are rescued by Johnny. Later a man agrees to smuggle them across the border in a truck with illegal aliens. Some men rob the truck and lock everybody, including the driver, in the back.Mac and Harold search for Paige and Michael. They find the smuggler, and decide to wait for Paige at the drop off point near San Diego. Greg meets with a publicist, Ted Melcher, about regaining some of his power. Val wakes up, but no one believes her accusations that Jill tried to murder her, and say she hallucinated because of the pills. Val sends the twins to stay with Lilimae, because she tells Gary she couldn't stand for them to be near Jill. Pat reminds Frank that he said Val seemed like she was being held at gunpoint, and says hallucinations are very rare with the drugs Val took.
#17 - The Briar Patch
Season 10 - Episode 7 - Aired Dec 15, 1988
Gary's really upset with Jill. She tells him her affair was with David Lamb. Val meets with David, but he denies the affair. Jill tells Gary she can prove it, and meets David at a restaurant to talk about their affair, while Gary sits nearby to listen. Gary tells Val that Jill really did have an affair. Abby hires Harold at Lotus Point, but then plants cocaine in his locker. Harold is arrested and tells Mac he was set up.Greg makes a romantic dinner for Paige, and buys her an antique Persian bowl. Abby and Gary convince Karen to sell Lotus Point, that it's going bankrupt, and they can't turn around it's image. Karen reluctantly agrees. Abby discovers that there is oil on Lotus Point. The resort is sold to a Japanese company, Morikame, which is really owned by Abby.
#18 - A Fine Romance
Season 10 - Episode 8 - Aired Dec 29, 1988
Val tells Jill that if anything happens to her, they'll suspect Jill. Gary tells Jill he doesn't care enough to work things out, but agrees to let her stay until she finds an apartment. Jill finds one, but lies and says it's not ready. She writes out an engagement announcement for her and Gary. Abby wants Harold to plead guilty and doesn't like Mac's interference. Ted comes on to both Paige and Abby. He tells Greg he should run for mayor, and needs to get married, but not to Paige. Paige and Greg play strip croquet. Greg buys a huge wedding ring. Paige is pleased when Greg takes down a painting Laura gave him, and puts up the painting Paige gave him. Paige's grandfather dies. Before she leaves town, she and Greg profess their love for each other.Greg shows Abby the ring, and when Abby asks who the lucky girl is, he says "You!"

Season 10 - Episode 9 - Aired Jan 5, 1989
Harold and Olivia discuss marriage. Mack, feeling old, takes a leave of absence. He drives Karen crazy, and she suggests he go camping in the mountains. Anne tells Paige that her grandfather cut Paige out of the will and she's cutting her off too. Paige says she doesn't care, because Greg loves her. Anne replies, "Yeah, and I'm the Queen of England!" Greg tells Abby their marriage will be a political one, since they can go twice as far together. He says they can appreciate each other's devious, conniving brains like no one else. Abby agrees to marry him. Greg gets home, and Paige is asleep in his bed. He watches her for awhile and then leaves.

Season 10 - Episode 10 - Aired Jan 12, 1989
Jill packs up and tells Gary goodbye, but then returns and says her apartment isn't ready. Mac goes to the mountains and meets Forest Ranger Paula Vertosick. They hit it off, and he is flattered when she invites him to spend the night with her. Instead he goes home to Karen, who realizes she misses him. Paige finds the engagement ring, and assumes it's for her. She buys a bridal magazine and Karen asks if she's helping Greg and Abby plan their wedding. Paige is crushed. Greg tells her she misinterpreted their relationship, and is very cold to her. She decides to continue working for Greg. Abby plans the wedding with Ted, wanting it to be a media event. Greg and Abby hold a press conference to announce their marriage and his candidacy for mayor.

Season 10 - Episode 11 - Aired Jan 19, 1989
Olivia discovers that Abby planted the cocaine in Harold's locker, and threatens to use it to ruin Greg's political career, so Abby agrees to drop the charges. Harold and Johnny get an apartment together. Jill continues to leave and come back. Irritated, Gary makes a hotel reservation for her and tells her not to come back. Carlos, who likes Paige, asks Greg if he's really going through with the wedding. Greg decides to move Paige to the corporate office. Paige uses Ted to make Greg jealous, and sends him a croquet set. He angrily tells her to quit pulling stunts. Before the wedding, Paige makes one more plea to Greg. He tells her that she can do better than him, he'd only hurt and disappoint her. Abby and Greg get married.
#22 - Mrs. Peacock in the Library with the Lead Pipe
Season 10 - Episode 12 - Aired Jan 26, 1989
Val's aunt Ginny brings the twins home, and decides to stay for awhile. Mack opens his own practice, and Peggy decides to work for him. Jill spies on Gary and orders invitations for her and Gary's wedding. David Lamb bursts into Jill's office and says she is a slut who gave him VD. The Health Dept. calls both Jill and Gary to say that they have been exposed to Syphilis. Jill makes her appointment right before Gary's and tells the doctor they're getting married. Gary overhears nurse ask Jill if she wants another prescription. Gary calls the doctor and says Jill wants another prescription, and he'd like the insurance transcript. He discovers it was for barbiturates, and was filled before Jill went to San Francisco. The doctor tells Gary that neither he nor Jill has an STD. Gary thinks it's strange that Jill didn't get VD from David, and tells Mack he thinks Val may be telling the truth.
#23 - Colonel Mustard in the Conservatory with the Wrench
Season 10 - Episode 13 - Aired Feb 2, 1989
Michael likes Ellen, a classmate, but she likes Johnny.Jill buys a wedding gown. Gary is arrested for breaking into Jill's apartment, but Jill tells the police to let him go because Gary just can't accept their breakup. Mac finds the forger, but she's comatose and dying in the hospital. Gary, the MacKenzies and Williams wonder why Jill had gotten barbiturates, and remember that Val hadn't had her prescription filled. Pat says if a barbiturate is mixed with alcohol, it will knock someone out. Mack and Gary go to see David Lamb, who admits to them that all he remembers is going to Jill's room, and then waking up the next day.
#24 - Without a Clue
Season 10 - Episode 14 - Aired Feb 9, 1989
Abby pressures Greg to bring Meg home. Mack tells Greg over his dead body!Upset that everyone is believing Val, Jill takes a lie detector test and passes. Gary asks Jill to see his therapist. The doctor tells Gary that Jill is depressed over their breakup, but not disturbed. Gary wants Val and the twins to stay at the ranch, but she says she refuses to run from Jill. Ted tells Paige she won't get Greg back by working with him.Michael and Ellen work on a computer program. Jill goes to a Medical Supply Store to rent a wheelchair. She says she and her fiancée are getting married next week, and he broke his leg. Jill goes to the ranch and partially cuts a strap on Gary's saddle.
#25 - Double Jeopardy
Season 10 - Episode 17 - Aired Mar 2, 1989
Paige leaks a story that Greg is still fighting for Meg's custody, and he loses the election. Abby says he'll have to go for an appointed position. Gary is arrested for Jill's murder. Coroner says cause of death is asphyxiation on vomit. Police find fibers of Gary's skin under Jill's nails, and Gary has scratches on his neck. Police say a witness called and said they saw Gary put the body in the trunk and gave his description and license plate number. Gary gets out on bail, and Pat tries to cheer him up. Gary tells Mac that when he was at Jill's he told her to stop hoping they would be together. He tells her, "not only do I not love you, I absolutely hate you. I hate the sight of you, I hate your voice, I hate the way you smell, I hate your mannerisms....", etc. Jill cries as he leaves and grabs his neck and scratches him. Jill tries to kiss him and Gary pushes her back and leaves.
