Ben is appalled, and makes sure he warns the community, but the man Donald Heinz asserts both his innocence and his civil rights, causing much community division and leading Tom to question his decision to appoint Ben as Acting Sergeant. Then a young girl goes missing and the man is accused of abducting her.

Bridie flirts with Jonesy, causing escalating aggression from the boyfriend, who takes it out on Bridie, then staggers into the hospital with a stab wound. Meanwhile the young woman is found, but says she's been raped. When the Heelers go to question the boyfriend and the young woman, they discover both have disappeared from the hospital—along with Jonesy, who was supposed to be guarding them. And then an hysterical Bridie leads them to her boyfriend's bloody dead body.

Ironically Tess' efforts to exonerate her sister of murder reveal that she is involved in a far more despicable crime—she has been running a brothel staffed by sex-slaves. Tess is forced to make an emotional choice, finally accepting her sister for who she really is.

When she learns her benefactor may have done a drive-by shooting, she refuses to accept it, but the truth is hard to find, partly because of her faulty memory of the events, and partly because of the confusion caused by a light blue ute, which has been involved in a series of crimes, from the drive-by shooting, to running her off the road, to an armed robbery of the Juicy Rooster. Unfortunately the ute's owner has an alibi for at least one of these crimes, and PJ is forced to believe his explanation that his ute was stolen. But by who, and why?

While PJ and Jo meet the man's wife and teenaged son and try to piece together what happened, Tess' mother-in-law reveals herself as a gynaecologist and diagnoses Tess with Pre-Eclampsia—a potentially life- threatening condition for her and her baby.

Tess tries to take control of the situation, but when one boy lunges in her direction Jonesy throws himself in between them and takes a knife in the torso.

A domestic situation sees Susie paying regular visits to the same motel that Brad is staying at. She finds herself thankful, however, for the help that the others give her. Ben's set a date for his wedding - March 17 - and he's ready for the promotion. Inspector Falcon-Price pays a surprise visit to the station to inspect but can find nothing wrong and Ben thinks he did well in front of the panel. Susie spends the night with Brad but things get out of hand when his depression takes over, and he spends the next day at the Imperial until he evantually causes a scene and Chris rings the cops to get rid of him. Susie and Ben deposit an angry Brad at home, and after he assures Susie that he loves her, they head back to the station to sign Susie out so she can spend time with Brad. There, the others are leaving and Marissa is waiting for Ben so they can go out to dinner. Susie, however, realises her gun is missing and they rush back to her home. Brad is missing as well.

Being without phones can only be a good thing. As they are about to get closer, Tess drops a bombshell secret, (which isn't actually a secret to most BH fans).

Tess's husband gets offered a job in Melbourne, and decides to take it. The road patrol uncovers a grisly homicide.
