A bomb attack kills officers from a Border Guard unit deployed in the Bieszczady Mountains. Capt. Rebrow loses his friends and his beloved Ewa in the attack. He is determined to find out who is the mastermind behind the bombing.

DA Dobosz is heading the investigation into Boarder Guards station bombing. Rebrow accepts Major Markowski's offer and return to active service. Luczak, Rebrow's friend, suspects that the bombing was authored by the local mobster, Kalita.

When Rebrow doesn't return, Alsu and her son become anxious. Kalita is exasperated because he has no contact with Cinek's men. Meanwhile, Border Guard and police are investigating evidence from the shootout. Dobosz arrives at the scene.

Rebrow is haunted by the thought that Ewa is alive. A group of illegal immigrants is walking along the main human trafficking route. During the chase after one of the guides, Rebrow notices a mysterious shape on the forest clearing.

The case turns to be more complex than it appeared to be. DA Dobosz is interrogating Rebrow at the police station. Markowski is ordered to clear things up in his unit. Meanwhile, Natalia's body is discovered in Bieszczady.

There is unrest in the borderland, and Border Guards working under enormous pressure. Prosecutor Dobosz returns to the Bieszczady Mountains to lead a new investigation. Wanted by the police, Rebrow is hiding in the backwoods.

Natalia's funeral is staged in Warsaw. Rebrow asks for a meeting with DA Dobosz and confesses to killing Natalia. During the inspection at the crime scene, Rebrow flees. The police and Border Guard officers set off on a chase.

There are new suspects who may help solve the case. Dobosz is trying to earn Alsu's trust to find out how she managed to get to Rebrow's hideout. She places Alsu and Halid in a refugee center. Rebrow tries to reach them.

There is another human trafficking incident on the border. Border Guards organize a raid which leads to a shootout. New suspects are named in the investigation, what brings back old demons, revives past conflicts and primeval fears.

During the search of Natalia's murder scene, Dobosz finds Rebrow's lighter. Later, in Kalita's hiding place she finds the gun which was used to shoot Kosowski and Ewa, and also a Rebrow's blood stained shirt. Kalita and Rebrow are arrested.

Dobosz brings to light inconsistencies in evidence given by suspects. Overwhelmed by emotions, Rebrow is struggling to bring matters to an end, but his plans are suddenly scotched. Markowski is relentlessly trying to solve the case.
