Black teenager Moesha recounts the daily life of her happy-go-lucky family living in the Leimert Park section of Los Angeles.
Kim becomes jealous when Moesha begins to hang out with her new friend Teresa. Then, when Teresa gets along well with Q too, Kim talks Moesha into believing that Teresa wants to steal him. A fight is the result, but it's Teresa and Kim who meet in the squared circle.
Moesha competes with her locker partner Gabriella for an internship with the L.A. Times and, after Gabriella gets a killer story (thanks to Hakeem), Moesha has to write an even bigger story. So she writes an article about ditch parties which gets her into trouble after the vice principal gets hold of it.
Moesha turns 18 and the gang decides to throw her a surprise birthday party but Kim spoils it by telling her. But the real surprise for Moesha is when all her former boyfriends, Ohagi, Q, Jeremy and Aaron, all stop by to show how they all want her back. But Moesha doesn't want to start over with any of them- except for her former teacher, Channing. After realizing that a relationship between them wouldn't work, Moesha and Channing both decide to just remain friends.
Moesha is envious of a gifted, yet reclusive, classmate who is named valedictorian but she also learns that he's homeless and cleans tables in the school's cafeteria. Meanwhile, Frank thinks Myles is ready for the ""talk.""
Musical guest: LeAnn Rimes Moesha and Kim have a fight over Kim's unprepared college plans. Later, MTV's ""FANatic"" picks Moesha to escort Kim to meet country singer LeAnn Rimes. LeAnn Rimes gives Kim and Moesha some good advice on how to remain good friends. Meanwhile, Hakeem accidentally sees Dee naked.
Andell holds a tutoring program at The Den, and Moesha decides to write an article about the tutoring sessions in hopes of winning a newspaper's journalism contest. One of Myles' friends named Justin reveals a story that he has trouble reading (only so he can be around Moesha). So, Moesha decides to write a story on Justin's illiteracy but she forgets one important thing-- she didn't check the facts after Justin lied about not being able to read. Meanwhile, Frank goes on a diet after he becomes slightly overweight.
Now that they're a couple again, Moesha tries to discover what true love is all about. Niecy reveals that she's the first out of the group to have sex; prompting a curious Moesha with various questions about love and sex. Moesha and Kim visit the health clinic where Moesha prescribes for birth control pills. Later, Dee finds the pills in Moesha's purse; leading to a serious conversation about sex. Dee promises Moesha that she won't tell Frank about the pills. Moesha meets Aaron but her anticipation for a romantic evening turn into a nightmare when she learns that he has had many sexual partners. Upset, Moesha walks out of his life for good.
Dee convinces the family to join Myles in a family therapy session, but Moesha decides to ditch the session to hang out with her friends. Frank reschedules the session so that everyone can attend and everyone begins to open up and express their feelings towards one another.
When Frank and Dee find a marijuana cigarette in the house, all suspicion leads to Moesha. After wrongfully accusing Moesha, they are all shocked to learn that the joint belonged to Myles.
Without Moesha around, Myles begins to miss his sister. Moesha helps her friends with their Homecoming preparations. Grandma Mitchell visits the family and stirs up a heated conversation over Moesha and Frank's disagreements. Myles tries to make an attempt to keep the family together (reminiscent to the 1997 movie Soul Food). After all the hostility dies down, Frank tells Moesha that he wants her to return home.
Five months later, and Moesha still hasn't returned home. After Kim forgets to purchase tickets to a sold-out concert featuring R&B singer Brandy, Moesha decides to spend her weekend alone with her new beau, Aaron, a college student whom she met over the summer. But when Moesha starts to push the relationship further (mainly due to her strange suggestions), the two break up. Later, Moesha, Kim, Niecy and Hakeem attempt to get into the concert. Backstage, Moesha meets Brandy who gives her some advice.
Moesha and her friends all decide to take a road trip to Sea World, but their trip ends abruptly after Chris causes them to get kicked out of the amusement park. So they all decide to travel to Mexico instead of going home. While in Mexico, the gang enjoys themselves until Moesha looses Morgan's car keys and Moesha is faced with the decision to call her parents. Meanwhile, J.W. and Andell are invited over to dinner, by Dee, to celebrate their anniversary of their first date; much to Frank's chagrin.
Moesha starts paying for her own telephone, cable and new furniture and Frank is happy that he doesn't have to pay for it, but Dee doesn't like what she sees.
In need of money, Hakeem gets Moesha a job at the clothing store where he works. But the new manager begins to take advantage of Moesha.
Kim accidentally hears Moesha and Niecy making fun of her weight. Upset, Kim gives them the cold shoulder when they all are supposed to dress as the ""Divas of Soul"" for the Halloween party at The Den. As Moesha and Niecy attempt to apologize to Kim, they all find themselves victims of gossiping behind each other's backs. Meanwhile, Myles catches the flu, forcing him to stay home and cancel ""trick-or-treating.""
With Myles sleeping over at a friend's and her parents out of town, Moesha has the house all to herself. So to take advantage of the opportunity, she invites Q over. Unfortunately, her parents return unexpected and find Moesha and Q lip-locked on her bed. After being grounded and threatened to be sent to Bridgewood Academy, a private school, Moesha runs away but to no avail.
A French exchange student named Chyna stays with the Mitchells. Chyna and Kim become back-up singers for Hakeem and Q's rap demo, but Moesha feels she wants to be apart of the demo by singing as well. There's just one problem-- she can't sing. Meanwhile, Frank and Dee can't agree on what color to paint the house. Tag: The cast is dancing and fooling around while reciting the song ""He's a Player.""
Over Q, Moesha starts neglecting her schoolwork and household chores. A fight between her and her parents is imminent. She finally convinces Frank to let Q come over for dinner so he can get to know Q.
Musical guests: Soul For Real, Xscape, Mc Lyte, Nancy Wilson and 112 After Moesha sees Q with Ebony, their relationship freezes again. Kim and Niecy continue to try to gain access to the concert. As Moesha, Kim and Niecy all seem to give up on the evening, they run into Montell Jordan who tries to change Moesha's mind and escorts the girls to the concert. But only Moesha becomes the lucky girl after Kim and Niecy are caught in a stampede. Myles continues his nightmare with the mean babysitter. Inside the concert, Moesha and Q talk over their differences and end up arriving to the restaurant that Dee and Frank, along with Andell and Coach Vines, are attending. Frank finally meets Q. After receiving Moesha's and Q's ticket stubs, Kim and Niecy finally get into the concert but are saddened to learn that the concert is over. Q's cousins' plans to get a recording deal fail but they fulfill Kim and Niecy's night by performing a song for them.
Musical guests:A Tribe Called Quest, Blackstreet Moesha wins four tickets on a radio show for the MTV MegaFest. For Kim, Niecy and Hakeem, it's clear who she'll take along with her. But when Moesha and Q reunite, it's five persons and four tickets. Q reassures everyone that it won't be a problem and he later wants to take along his four aspiring singing cousins, making it a nine for four. At the concert, Q's plan fails when Moesha and his cousins somehow manage to get in and he, Hakeem, Kim and Niecy are left in the cold. While Dee and Frank go out for the evening, they leave Myles in the care of a babysitter who turns into his worst nightmare. Back at the concert, Q and Hakeem meet Q's former girlfriend, Ebony, and her friend Lisa Leslie who have appeared to have been stood up by their dates. Q manages to con Ebony and Lisa into letting himself and Hakeem escort them into the concert. (Mission Accomplished!) Unfortunately, Kim and Niecy try to gain access to the concert but all plans
While playing a friendly game of Truth or Dare, Kim and Niecy dare an innocent Moesha to get a tattoo. She reluctantly agrees to the dare only if Kim and Niecy go with her. After learning that Kim really didn't get her nose pierced and Niecy didn't get anything at all, a new branded Moesha must now face her father. Trying to stay cool and calm, Frank goes along with Dee's plans of letting Moesha grow up, but he accidentally tells Moesha his opinion of her. Meanwhile, Hakeem takes a second job at The Den, but he unknowingly mixes Andell's imported colon cleanser mix into the smoothies and serves them to customers.
Morgan throws a co-ed slumber party and Moesha invites Kim, Hakeem and Niecy. At the party, they find out that the boys sleepover, too. Also, Niecy finds the courage to talk to Marco and Mary Ellen tries desperately to get into the party. After seeing Jeremy dancing with various females, Moesha finally decides to talk to him. Meanwhile, Frank and Dee have a romantic evening at home, but they're interrupted by the news that there are boys at the slumber party. After seeing Moesha walking downstairs and holding hands with Jeremy, Frank scolds Moesha; resulting in Moesha moving out.
After leaving home, Moesha turns to Andell for the night. Although she promises Andell she'll go back home the next day, she surprises Andell by staying at The Den the following day. Upset that Moesha lied to her, Andell forces Moesha to talk to Frank, but nothings changed between them. Back at Andell's Moesha becomes a bother to Andell and her new beau, Uncle Bernie.
Hakeem begins dating a beautiful girl from Hamilton High named Geneva, but Moesha soon misses his constant presence in her life. So Kim enlists her help in a scheme designed to break up the new relationship, after they learn that Geneva has been two-timing Hakeem. But Moesha's guilty conscience leads her to try to repair the damage. Meanwhile, Dee hooks Andell up with J.W., one of Frank's colleagues.
Frank and Dee announce they would like to have a baby. Moesha doesn't think that it's a good idea and tells Myles that if he agrees with them, he'll be replaced. But after realizing that she's denying Frank and Dee's chance to have a baby, Moesha gives them her blessing. Myles later runs away from home after feeling replaced by the newcomer after Frank forgets to spend time with him.
