While visiting the bank, Marshall and Karen are taken hostage. Karen and Marshall try to save the situation from the inside, while Karen's boss, Amos Andrews, tries to hold back the FBI. The FBI agent on the scene, Gil Bellows, is a little to eager to storm the bank, which might jeopardize the lives of the hostages.

Nicholas Pell (Thomas Kretschmann, ""The Pianist"") slips through Karen's fingers immediately after he exits a plane. Karen's humiliated, and now ordered off the case by the FBI. But that doesn't stop her from trying to catch this con man that targets rich women. Karen is placed in charge of protecting former mob accountant Alvin Simmons (Xander Berkeley, ""24""). Marshall Sisco helps Karen out with the Simmons case, so that Karen can continue to chase Pell. Karen returns from a date to find that Simmons has fled the witness protection program, carelessly putting his and Karen's life in jeopardy. Karen's ex-boyfriend, a married FBI agent (Peter Horton, ""thirtysomething""), is back in Miami.

A baseball worth millions is stolen by two escaped convicts (the Salchek brothers). Unfortunately for the Salchek's, the baseball is owned by the infamous mob boss Charlie Lucre (Danny DeVito). Karen must race against Lucre's hitmen to find the Salchek brothers. Karen seeks clues from the Salchek's mother, a waitress living in a trailer park (Rhea Perlmen).
#5 - Justice
Season 1 - Episode 4 - Aired 10/22/2003
Marshalls Karen Sisco and Konner (Gary Cole) must track down three fugitives from the Biloxi prison. All three, Fuzzy Bear, 6pak, and Jamaal Watson are members of a Washington DC gang. While new in Miami, Konner is legendary law enforcement officer from the Washington, D.C. field office. Sisco and Konner track down the last surviving family member of Watson living in Tampa, and she lets them know that the fugitives are trying to get to Costa Rica. Oh, and they have her car. Sisco and Konner track the car to a convenience store, and a gunfight erupts. Konner shoots and kills 6pak and is temporarily taken off the case while the gunfire is investigated. Konner tries to continue the investigation. Concerned with her hostile, erratic partner, Sisco investigates Konner. It turns out that Konner blames gang members for killing his partner, and might be responsible for the death of Watson's brothers.

Karen Sisco's current assignment: track down fugitive Louis Dinardo. Dinardo is wanted for the murder of Mr. Garnier's assistant and theft of several hundred thousand dollars. Mr. Garnier becomes aware of Louis's return to Miami and sends Butch Ferrera and Fred Finch after him. Karen tracks down Louis's wife, but learns that Louis left her for Cary. Cary turns up dead, and Karen runs a funeral announcement to try to get Louis to turn up. Not only does Louis turn up, but so do Butch Ferrera and Fred Finch. Louis turns out to be Lois, and in the confusion, Lois escapes. Marshall Sisco, meanwhile, has been hired to examine whether a husband has been cheating on his wife (Elaine).
#7 - Dear Derwood
Season 1 - Episode 6 - Aired 11/5/2003
Derwood Edson breaks out of prison after receiving a letter from his stripper girlfriend Angie. Derwood's best friend, Dwight, has been spending a little too much time with Angie. Karen's attempted romance with Miami Marlins pitcher Tuck Rodriguez (Eduardo Verastegui) appears fated to disappointment, because of their careers. Karen must recapture Derwood. Tuck is starting to lose his ability to pitch, and Karen is becoming a little too famous, after been seen with Tuck. Karen learns of Angie and sticks to her like glue to recapture Derwood. When Karen learns that Angie is mixed up in drugs, she arrests her and puts her in prison. Undeterred, Derwood breaks Angie out of prison.

After fifteen years, Junior McLean (John Diehl) is finally released from an Everglades prison with nothing but an old faded picture of a little girl. Also in the Everglades is a man named Lester Porter (Jim True Frost), a counterfeiter, who is just about to have some unexpected visitors from the government. Karen Sisco, along with agents from the Marshall's service and the U.S. Treasury (including Agent Garrison Klick), raid Porter's stilt house and arrest him. Porter works out a deal to take down his employers, if his old highschool classmate guards him (Karen, who doesn't remember him). After returning from a fake lead (Salvatore Gigliano), Karen finds Lester being visited by his fiancee (Harmony Brown). Karen starts to question Lester when Junior suddenly starts shooting at them. During the confusion, Lester escapes. Karen learns that her dad put Junior away and that his little girl died while he was inside. Junior now wants revenge.

In the opening episode, Karen Sisco is shot, learns that her charter fisherman boyfriend might be a bank robber, and has to satisfy Internal Affairs. Karen and fellow Marshall Danny Quintero were on stake-out of a suspected fugitive, and she is placed on temporary duty until she files her report about what happened one particular night. Other than being shot, Karen is having some memory problems. Meanwhile, Karen's father, PI Marshall Sisco is investigating possible insurance fraud. In his spare time, Marshall Sisco plays poker with ex-cons.
