As a ferry carrying 300 passengers from Denmark pulls into an Icelandic town’s small port, heavy snow begins to fall. The ferry can’t leave until the storm passes and the main road into town is impassable. A mutilated and dismembered body washes on the shore, an unidentifiable man murdered only hours ago. The local police chief, Andri Olafssun, whose personal life is in shatters, realizes a killer has descended into his town. As word spreads, order disintegrates into chaos as the ferry’s passengers and the town’s residents realize they are all possible suspects and that a killer is trapped among them.

A shocking attack on a politician in Reykjavik means Chief of Police Andri has to return to his hometown in the north of the island, and to working with his former colleagues Hinrika and Asgeir, to investigate a suspected link between the case and far-right nationalists. Things are changing in the countryside. Heavy industry is taking over, to the deep resentment of local farmers and environmentalists, with fears of untold damage to both their livelihoods and their landscape. With Andri’s family life still fractured since the dark events three years ago that sent him to Reykjavik, he is going back to a place that still feels strange to him.

Gisli’s links with the far-right organisation, Hammer of Thor, lead Andri and Hinrika to suspect two young local farmers – Torfi and Skuli – of involvement in Finnur’s murder. But rather than face questioning, Skuli escapes into the mountains on horseback. In his absence Torfi confesses to Finnur’s murder, but Andri does not believe him. Thorhildur will still not talk to Andri and has begun going out without telling her aunt so that she can hang around with Finnur’s son Aron.

Called by a neighbor, Andri and Hinrika go to the home of the late Finnour Grimsson and discover that the front door is no longer sealed. Young people visibly squatted the place. Andri quickly understands that the intruders in question are none other than Arone and her daughter Dorildour. They found on the spot a bag containing eighty thousand euros as well as a geological map published by the Ministry of Industry and a blank sales contract. Hafdis, the industry minister decides not to return to Reykjavik as quickly as planned. Andri questions him about the geological map that delimits the land belonging to Gisli, his twin brother burnt down. Ebo claims his due from Pawel, the tone rises, the two men fight and Ebo is forced to flee. Ulcerated, Vikingour immediately went to the plant to confront Pawel.

Meanwhile Mayor Hafdis is still being threatened by a mysterious opponent, but is determined to conceal it from the police until the investment deal is signed.

While still no closer to finding Finnur’s killer, the team must use what little information they have to save Hafdis.
