A series of thriller stories, linked only by the character of The Hitchhiker, who would introduce and close each episode in the style of Rod Serling or Alfred Hitchcock. Occasionally stories involved supernatural forces, but most plot twists stemmed only from the dark side of the human spirit. The basic principle of the series is 'what goes around comes around', because when a character chooses the dark side, they often have no chance of salvation. There are no happy endings in the realm of The Hitchhiker. Originally the Hitchhiker was cast with Nicholas Campbell, but for whatever reason Campbell was replaced with Page Fletcher. Campbell's scenes in two of the original three episodes (only the third episode still features Campbell) were later re-shot with Fletcher which, because the Hitchhiker initially had more interaction with the people in the stories, cause certain scenes to appear very choppy.
