#1 - Episode 1

Season 5 - Episode 1 - Aired 1/19/2014

The season was filmed in the islands amidst the South China Sea. The castaways were 20 regular citizens of South Africa, led by two team captains, former Springbok rugby captain, Corné Krige and former Bafana Bafana player, Mark Fish. The team captains compete in all the team challenges, involve themselves in tribal life, and take part in Tribal Council. However, they cannot be voted out of the game, and they cannot vote at Tribal Council. On Day 27 the team captains alongside the Jury vote for the castaway they believe is the Ultimate Survivor and the R1 million grand prize. The team captains also play for a separate prize of R500,000.00 decided by the South African public.

Betrayal and conflict plague the Juara tribe in the South China Sea. A single castaway's decision could destroy one of the strongest alliances and change the course of the game.

The Contestants can smell the R1 Million prize now and they'll do anything to get their hands on it. Alliances aren't worth the handshakes that cemented them and the lies are getting bigger, bolder, and glossier.

The remaining five Survivors are experiencing the meaning of the word 'hunger' like never before. At last week's Tribal Council, ousted Altaaf took revenge by emptying his bag of rice in the fire, but it's not only the lack of food in their bellies that's leading to desperate measures. Also, this week, Captains Mark Fish and Corne Krige will also be duelling for the Salvation Cup for the last time. The outcome of this duel is extremely important for Sivu and Buhle, who know that they should use the winning Captain's right to annul one vote. They also realise that playing their secret Hidden Immunity Idol at the wrong time could be disastrous.
