Dan and the children go sight seeing while Trish rests. Upon returning from their outing, the children discover Trish severely beaten and bloodied with a knife protruding from her head. Stefanie is pronounced dead — determined an accidental drowning. While friends and family comfort Craig, a suspicious coroner pushes for an autopsy. The investigation reveals Stephanie died from strangulation not drowning — within hours the police uncover more incriminating evidence. In Craig's attic they find receipts chronicling all of Craig's relationship with Summer. In court the details of Stefanie's final moments come out. After slipping Stefanie a sleeping pill, Craig placed her in the tub and callously strangled his wife.
