Mystery however is never very far behind them, and as soon as they start a new assignment they soon discover plots and conspiracies in-between the herbaceous borders. Rosemary and Laura travel to Italy to prepare the gardens for Emma Standish's new Italian restaurant but find themselves behind with the work. They decide to relax themselves and are recommended to go on a guided tour of Giardini Tremonti by the local fixer Fabrizio Biaggi. The tour however is halted when a lady named Janice Alexander is found dead. Fabrizio is arrested but Rosemary and Laura are asked to prove his innocence by Emma. As events unfold, a murderous trend emerges when retired Foreign Office diplomat Basil Slavinski is also found dead at the bottom of his cliff top garden...

Rosemary and Laura are employed to help re-create an original Victorian planting in an historic Avenue garden. There they meet a variety of characters for whom the central London park plays a regular part in their daily life. The beauty and peace of the Avenue is shattered when Harley Street psychiatrist, Pavel Volkar, is found murdered. Rosemary and Laura adopt Mr Volkar's bereaved three-legged dog Holly, who seems to have more than a canine understanding of events. The mystery surrounding the accident in which Holly lost her leg appears to be key to solving the murder mystery.

Laura's son, Matthew, and his friends are on their annual tennis holiday at a beautiful tennis camp owned by former champion Ray Parfitt in southern Spain where Laura and Rosemary are creating a trophy garden for his Pro-Am tennis tournament. When one of the players is found dead after a night out everyone assumes it was a drunken accident but the girls suspect foul play. In the neighbouring village of Mijas, Rosemary rediscovers the thrill of riding motor scooters, while Laura finds the local bullring a mysterious and threatening place. That night, Rosemary is woken by the sound of a gunshot and hurries outside to find out where it came from. Joined by Laura, they discover that Nev has been shot dead. Fearing they may not be able to get the water running again, they are surprised when Frances Caldecott, the owner of the site, requests a whole new plant arrangement to the one her late husband Edwin originally chose. Rosemary is given a book entitled 'The Language of Flowers' written by Edwin before he died, but not published until recently. In the book, Edwin has documented how different flowers can symbolize a range of actions and emotions. Laura and Rosemary are invited to dinner with Frances and her children Kate and Jeff. When Frances doesn't arrive, the party are shocked to find her strangled in her study...

The professor manages to force a vote on the decision to sell the land and saves the day, much to the disappointment of builder Mr Kelly and site owner Hugo Dainty. Laura manages to put her family problems to one side when another tenant of Julia's, a man called Jeremy Pearson is found dead in the soon-to-be memorial garden. Rosemary and Laura must find out who murdered Jeremy whilst dealing with a mysterious figure, who is vandalizing their work on the garden every night...

Caroline Pargeter, the grand-daughter of the famous botanist Edwin Pargeter, is selling her house and has asked Rosemary and Laura to tidy up the garden. When a mysterious Southern American man is found dead in the Pargeter's back garden, it looks as if there is more to Edwin's seed collection than meets the eye. Rosemary involves her colleague at the Royal Horticultural Society at Kew Gardens to help identify the mysterious seeds before they fall into the wrong hands.

Rosemary and Laura are called to Lyvedon manor to restore the now derelict wall gardens by the request of the garden's owner Martin Frazer. As a source of cheap labor to assisst Rosemary and Laura work on the gardens, Martin enlists the help of a group of inmates from the local prison. Initially Rosemary is suspicious of working with prisoners but soon gets used to it, but a greater shock awaits her when she witnesses Martin's odd cousin Jim jumping into the local fast flowing river, killing himself. Soon after at the local market, Rosemary is shocked to see Jim walking around, despite his body being found and identified by Martin himself.

Rosemary and Laura go to the village of Baffington where they are asked by the vicar to clean up the local churchyard in time for the upcoming Medieval Fayre. They soon meet Mr Danvers, a medieval times enthusiast who tells them about his plans to buy a local site called Brockett's farm but has competition for the land from drugs firm Knussens. At a village meeting to discuss the matter, the co-owner of Brockett's farm, the long lost Malcolm Sutton turns up, vowing not to sell the property. When Rosemary and Laura return to the churchyard the next day, they discover Malcolm under a yew tree, with an arrow through his chest...

Rosemary and Laura are called to Rowfield to find out the cause of a mysterious blight, which only seems to affect the plants from gardens competing in the local open day competition. The competition is fierce between those after the first prize and the duo soon discover that the competitors are blaming each other for the troublesome blight. Suspecting the soil in each garden is being contaminated by weed killer as an act of sabotage, Rosemary and Laura discover the competitors will do anything to win, when they come across the dead body of last years winner Mr Westwood...

Rosemary Boxer goes to visit her friend Daniel Kellaway, who suffers from eczema, to receive a cash grant for her university but is asked by him to investigate the dying trees in the grounds of his mansion home. Laura Thyme has left her home after being cheated on by her husband and goes to see her friend Sam, who is later killed in a car accident whilst driving home one night. After meeting one another and forming a firm friendship, Rosemary and Laura begin to investigate into the accident and the dying trees.

Rosemary and Laura are called to Stagford Lodge Prep School to investigate the case of the newly planted roses dying, as well as extending the already planted rose garden. Whilst investigating the problem the duo are invited by Mr Oakley the classics teacher to dine at the masters table on 'the night of the stag' when the school boys play a practical joke on one of the masters. The night goes horribly awry and two teacher are attacked. Despite the events Rosemary and Laura begin to suspect there is even more trouble to come and their suspicions are proved when they discover the body of Simon Todd, the geography master buried in the grounds...

With growing interest in English vineyards, Laura and Rosemary are pleased to be invited to see Ben Blackton's Crickle Valley Vineyard. Unhappily, weeds are choking his vines, and the gardeners are asked to find a horticultural solution to the problem. Ben is at odds with his brother Stuart, who runs a hotel alongside Ben's vineyard, over the future of the property - a rivalry made worse by the murder of Ben's girlfriend and the death of a visiting wine writer in mysterious circumstances. Luckily, the detective work of Rosemary and Laura not only unmasks the killer but also rescues the future of the Crickle Valley Vineyard.

Rosemary's cousin, Charles, is performing with an amateur dramatic group and she and Laura have been brought along to prepare the garden of the open-air theatre in time for opening night.
