Vicki Hagen finds a set of keys under Santini's bed which she brings to the station to return to him.

DC Ken Drummond's cover as a security guard has been blown, and he's been taken hostage by the Foster family. Archie Foster wants Drummond to help them raid the Metropolitan Police warehouse to steal millions of pounds worth of luxury sports cars - and as an incentive, he threatens Ken's family - both of Ken's families. Drummond's absence at the station goes unnoticed at first: Acting DI Samantha Nixon's family troubles come to a head, and after a confrontation with her daughter, Nixon decides to resign from the police to prove her love for her daughter, and uniform are kept busy by a series of bomb hoaxes organised by Foster. With the raid underway, Foster's plans begin to unravel - Drummond has to knock a fellow security guard unconscious, as well as put off a curious DS Debbie McAllister and DC Juliet Becker who turn up looking for him. Bradford promises to release Kane's kids in exchange for Kane as a hostage, but when Gold refuses, Okaro overrides her decision. Bradford then insists Kane choose between his children. Forcing Kane to handcuff himself, Bradford relives the events of the past year, including the death of Kane's wife Tanya. The station is evacuated, and the TSG arrive to provide support. Bradford's stories become increasingly unbelievable, as she tells Kane that she was abducted by a serial killer as a child. Nixon and Sharpe trawl through Bradford's history and discover that she has been lying. When Bradford moves Kane out of range of the TSG probe, Okaro authorises TSG to force entry into the boiler room.

TSG storm the boiler room and Supt. Adam Okaro arrests a screaming Cathy Bradford for murder. Despite his colleagues' warnings, DC Brandon Kane insists on returning to work at CID, but when he finds himself conned by an elderly woman for an insurance scam, he realises his mind isn't on the job any more. Kane goes to see Supt. Okaro and hands in his resignation, saying he wants to spend time with his kids. PC Gary Best is seconded to CID, and is temporarily partnered with DC Terry Perkins who barely tolerates his new sidekick. The pair investigate the mugging of a city trader by two homeless ex-servicemen. Terry is disgusted by the world the traders inhabit and is frustrated when he learns that the mugging was a revenge attack. When Gary goes out on his own initiative and almost blows the case, Terry takes matters into his own hands and threatens to reveal the trader's cocaine use. When an abandoned car is discovers with traces of blood nearby, the team are called in to investigate. The car is discovered as belonging to businessman Ajay Kapur, but his family say that he flew to India before the car was found. When they investigate further the police discover that Mr Kapur did not go to India and that somebody was following him. Mrs Kapur then finally admits that her husband has been kidnapped. The team try to get him back without anyone being hurt.

Ric's initiative for zero tolerance of patients who refuse to help themselves or abuse hospital staff makes it clear to Connie he has no intention of quitting as director of surgery. Joseph continues to be distracted by fears that Jac is pregnant, Maddy suffers after her night out with Tom, and Maria makes use of Sam's car but is upset by the realisation he has no plans to return from America.
