Part Two - Sacrifices: As the dead body of her one-night stand, Rob Tucker, is carried out of Page's flat, Hagen is taken into Sun Hill by CID for a taped interview. She is soon cleared of any involvement, as Rob's death was clearly a suicide, but is determined to find out what drove Rob to kill himself. Off-duty, Hagen discovers that his real name was Rob Seaton, and that he had recently served a prison term for rape. Meanwhile, Carver arrests a violent husband when he attacks a police officer. When Taviner gets hold of the tape of Hagen's interview, he plays a cruel prank, playing the tape over the PA system. While Chandler and Mannion are furious, the results spell the end of Hagen's career at Sun Hill.

Meadows is approached by a German lawyer, Eva Melchor, who has an interesting proposal from her client, a notorious armed robber named Paul Kerrigan. Kerrigan's sister Rene is dying, and provided he is allowed to see her one last time, he will not only turn himself in to Meadows, he will also identify members of the M25 gang, a vicious gang of armed robbers who have been terrorising London. True to his word, Kerrigan shops Kevin Lee, the gang's armourer, and a search reveals a cache of weapons in Lee's pet shop. With MIT and OCG eagerly awaiting Kerrigan's information, Meadows places Kerrigan in a safe house. When a series of car bombs distracts Carver and Worrell, Kerrigan escapes.

Police are baffled when a prostitute's murder matches in every detail a series of killings for which Derek Tyler has already been caught and jailed. Tony knows it can't be a copycat because in sexual homicides every killer has their own unique signature, but if this isn't someone imitating Derek's atrocities then how are the killings happening at all? While Alex and her team struggle for a lead on the streets, Tony thinks Tyler holds the key. But there's a problem: Tyler has remained utterly mute since the day he was arrested and to crack him Tony must to use every ounce of his psychological skill and imagination. Tensions develop with the police operation as vice-squad DI Jan disagrees with Alex's running of the case. And things go disastrously wrong when Paula becomes bait for the killer and is kidnapped without a trace. All the experts have diagnosed Tyler as a schizophrenic who heard imaginary voices telling him to kill. But Tony realises that Tyler's "voice" was a real one. He is the victim of brainwashing - and whoever controlled him is now controlling another killer and has Paula within their power. When it becomes clear that whoever is doing this has access to information about the police investigation, for Tony the spotlight falls on one person... someone with a knack for psychological persuasion, a past containing the key to their motivations, and now uncomfortably close to Alex's police team throughout their search for Paula.

While reports of disturbances start flooding in, the relief out on the streets find themselves under attack. Gilmore has a hard time containing a vanful of officers desperate to get amongst the conflict and regain some order. As white youths are seen loitering around an Asian owned warehouse, Ackland is taken hostage. As the relief rush to rescue her, Carver bursts in and starts beating up the ringleader, and the two share a passionate kiss. As the team relax with a drink in CID, trouble is only around the corner - with an array of petrol bombs being lobbed at the station. Taviner seizes his chance to get rid of the fake cash, but his disastrous actions lead to the entire station becoming engulfed in flames.

When she is questioned Clarinda insists she was the victim of a mugging. It is soon revealed that Clarinda's son Andy had been dealing drugs for Tim and when she found out, she confronted the man. When Tim ends up being released Callum decides to track him.

Tensions are running high in the emergency department as the F2s nervously await an important decision and Ruth struggles to impress Dr Sarah Evans by treating a patient alone. With the department at full stretch treating casualties from a major fire and a car accident victim with cerebral palsy, the F2s bicker through their shift as they anxiously await the fall-out from their treatment of Amir. Adam warns them that they must continue to work as part of a team but Ruth, in particular, is reluctant to work with them and the young medics are uneasy. Could this be the end of their short careers as doctors? Keen to impress neurological expert Dr Sarah Evans, Ruth refuses to ask for advice about the cerebral palsy patient, preferring to struggle on alone. But when the patient's condition worsens, the vastly experienced Jordan steps in to help. Will Ruth be honest about the situation? And where exactly does her future at the hospital lie? Meanwhile, massage parlour workers Bree and Joy are brought into Holby City hospital with burns sustained when a fire broke out in their flat. Both were making plans to escape the controlling clutches of the massage parlour owner, Tony. Bree has the help of her new boyfriend, Dave, but will it be plain sailing for the young couple? nick returns back to treatment with the F2s.

The F2s are thrilled when the dean announces a Junior Academic Fellowship Award which will see one of them win a role in the ED with a lucrative salary. However, Adam warns them they must still work together as a team and not be tempted by individual success. May, in particular, is desperate to win the award. However, mentored by the impatient Ruth, things don't get off to a good start. When a bank robbery goes horribly wrong, injured bank manager, Gal, is brought into casualty with a gun-shot wound. But Gal isn't quite the hero he first appears and his obsessive behaviour brings back some disturbing memories for Polly. When Gal starts waving a gun around the ED, Polly leaps into action, putting everyone at risk. It's time for the young paramedic to relive and confront exactly what happened with Alistair in order to get her life, and career, back in order. Meanwhile, Jordan is keen to return to a more hands-on role in the ED. However, despite the department being at full stretch, Adam won't hear of it. Medical back-up soon arrives in the form of a rather unwelcome face from the past. Trevor impresses Tess with his handling of Isabel, a lonely, elderly lady who has been injured during the bank robbery getaway. Tess bravely invites him out on a date but there's something he's failed to mention to her...
