A group of highway racers, led by Daniel Merserburger, regularly drives on the highway. After a fatal accident in which Micky is shot, Tom and Semir begin to investigate the gang. Daniel, who was involved in another accident a year ago, is suspected of trying to silence Micky and Robert because they gave him an alibi in the first case. The father of Laura, an accident victim, believes in revenge, while Daniel's father obstructs the investigation. But then Robert is also murdered.

Tom and Semir investigate the murder of Armin Dahlen, a journalist who was working on an explosive exposé. Shortly before he was shot, he hid a tiny digital camera in Engelhardt's handbag. The gangsters Schulte and Jacobsen, who work for the haulage company Lambert, do everything they can to find the camera, as it contains evidence of illegal toxic waste disposal. After a raid on Engelhardt's apartment, they manage to steal the camera. While Tom and Semir follow the trail to Bachmann, a corrupt landfill worker, a showdown with Lambert ensues.

Shortly afterwards, the private detective she hired is murdered. Tom and Semir suspect Anja's husband Sebastian, who was in a dispute with her father. An assassination attempt on Anja and the discovery of the bracelet on Sebastian lead to his arrest - but the real perpetrator remains hidden.
