Bea and Judy search for Doreen. Bea tells Lizzie to keep an eye on Lori. Lori claims she isn't at all frightened and that Doreen is too stupid to know what to do with a knife. Lizzie sits her down and tells her to shut up. Doreen saunters into the rec room. When Bea and Judy ask her about the knife, Doreen says she moved it. As Lori goes back to her cell Doreen has a naughty smirk that convinces Bea and Judy that she's up to something. When Bea forces Judy to tell the women about Lori's true identity, a shocked Doreen quickly confesses that she has set up a little "surprise"...Meanwhile, Lori is at the door of her cell having spotted a rope tied to something above the door. Vera catches her creeping into the cell and decides to investigate. Vera pushes the cell door open and a bucket of soap powder dumps on her head. In a rage, she hauls Lori off to solitary. Doreen tries to explain, but the powder-drenched Vera is in no mood to listen. An agitated Judy yells at the laughing women that they have to get Lori out of trouble. Vera throws Lori into solitary and asks if she's a perverted lesbian like her mother...or didn't she know. Lori puts a good face on it and says that she did. Vera smirks, says it takes one to know one, and slams the door shut. She then goes to Judy's cell and lets her know that she's told Lori about her. The next morning, Vera, still in a fury, is typing out her report when Jim asks if Michelle has left for trial. Vera says she has and throws in some snide remaks about his concern in the matter. Doreen explains the matter to Erica, who agrees that Doreen should take Lori's place in solitary. Erica also insists that Doreen apologize to Vera. Doreen reluctantly does so and Vera, after some sharp prodding from Erica, reluctantly accepts it. Lori is touched when Doreen arrives to take her place. Rita, Alice and Nancy await their fate following Joan's unexpected return to Wentworth as she tells Ann how she managed to escape the island. Kath decides it is time for her to make a bid for the Top Dog position. Lorelei is beaten up by Kath's supporters for defying her and standing up for herself. Nancy's new daughter-in-law turns up at the prison to ask her advice. Rita gets out of Solitary and ambushes Kath on the stairs.

Abandoned by the father and abused by the ladies, Queen escapes the relative comforts of her employers' home, taking her child with her.

The first episode develops the relationship between James Jackson III, a rich plantation owner's son and Easter, a slave. James marries a wealthy Southern lady, but he carries on with a lifelong affair with Easter, which will result in the birth of a girl, Queen. Queen's fair skin makes her soon notice that she is not as black as her fellow slaves. She is taken into the main plantation house to be the personal slave of James' daughter, where she spends her youth years trying to discern if Jackson is her real father. The Civil War seriously affects James' plantation putting an end to the old ways and the family matriarch tells Queen to find some other place to live.

Reunited with Davis, the father of his son, Queen finds love but also hate as the man is lynched. Taking the road once more, Queen finds a new job and meets Alec Haley, who will become his husband and the father of her second son, Simon. Though Queen never finds an answer to her quest for belonging, she is at least moderately at peace with the place in which she finds herself. A household fire seems to be the triggering event that together with her sons' departure, causes Queen's nervous breakdown. She has serious issues seeing her first son Abner depart, and her mental state goes worse to the point that she needs to be institutionalized.
