Dash and Adam respond to a report of vandalism at the train yards, and discover a couple of young offenders—one so fleet of foot that he's even faster than Dash. She thinks she knows the boy, Jed Russell, and discovers from his mother that Jed's been living with his father, Jim. Jim is at the pub when Adam and Dash find him , and seems unconcerned about his son's actions. When a more serious incident happens at the trainyard, PJ becomes involved, and Jed Russell is the prime suspect in the case. Jim is brought in because Jed is underage, and during the questioning takes loud umbrage at PJ's tactics. Blue Heelers - Season 4 - Episode 32
Nick is manning the desk when a young man, Gavin Stone, comes in to report that his father's car has been stolen. This doesn't seem too out of the ordinary until a horrified Dash states that Gavin Stone is the scarecrow and his father the Troll. Elaborating on local legend, Dash explains that the Troll and his son have been feared by every child in the district for many years, even now the scarecrow gives her the creeps. Maggie encounters Gavin Stone as he is leaving the station. She looks at his car—it is falling apart as they speak. Gavin pleads with her to give him a chance to repair it, as it is now their only way of getting around. Although Maggie lets him off with a warning she is later forced to register the car unroadworthy. Meanwhile, PJ is investigating a series of car thefts from the supermarket parking lot. Maggie is telling Dash of her recurring nightmare of a dark and angry horse when Robbie brings in his new employer, Doreen Jackson, and her father, Jim Jamieson, to report that one of his paintings has been stolen- a painting of a horse. Ever since Jim was crippled by a rogue horse, it seems he paints nothing but horses- the same one, over and over again. But when Maggie and PJ go to his derelict property to investigate, they discover that the stolen painting has been replaced. Jim can't understand it , but PJ thinks that answer to the confusion lies in the empty liquor bottles on his table. Tom is faced with a dilemma when a mother asks him to protect her son, a convicted felon who is back home after an early release. The boy was responsible for the particularly cowardly armed robbery of a local real estate office which traumatised the owner's wife so much that she later committed suicide. Her husband seems a reasonable man, but could he be harbouring feelings of revenge? Someone has to be responsible for the threatening phone calls and broken windows the family is getting. The Heelers question an old associate of the son's and, by chance, discover him to be in possession of a stolen police gun. The news almost immediately brings Detective Sergeant Ben Stewart, from Organised Crime, to Mt. Thomas. Unexpected news from Zoe leads Nick to spring a surprise of his own—his resignation from the Victoria Police. In typical Nick style, he refuses to provide a reason for his resignation, hampering Tom's attempts to talk sense into him. But as the Heelers try to discover the real motives for Nick's strange behaviour an angry dispute over a parking ticket leads to the arrest of a chook farmer, the death of some chickens and the disappearance of a parking inspector. The chook farmer becomes the prime suspect, but investigations unearth a secret life and plenty of people with good reason to hate the officious inspector. When a wedding celebrant visits and Nick is sprung baking a wedding cake, the Heelers finally put two and two together to discover the truth. Nick tries to create a smokescreen by claiming that elderly residents Leila Clegg and Merv Poole are tying the knot, but Zoe blows his cover and admits that she and Nick are indeed getting married. Tiring of Nick's erratic behaviour, Zoe calls off their wedding. The crisis that follows culminates in Nick saving Zoe from being caught up in the chicken farmer's plans for a fiery end, and teaches him some hard lessons about love and commitment.

Blue Heelers - Season 6 - Episode 37
Jo's blossoming romance with out-of-towner Travis Williams is cut short when PJ reveals Travis is a dangerous criminal put way for murdering his girlfriends. The vicious crime haunts PJ who arrested Travis and is immediately suspicious of his return to Mt. Thomas. Tom warns Jo to dump the romance before she becomes too involved and jeopardises her job. He can't have a constable going out with a criminal, even if he is reformed. When a spate of vicious armed robberies against women are reported, PJ believes Travis is involved. Mindful of Jo's broken heart, Maggie provides a shoulder but counsels Jo to leave him. The promise of a new love never felt so lonely. PJ keeps tabs on Travis who seems contrite and is certainly cooperative. He has returned to Mt. Thomas to start afresh and find work but PJ makes it clear—he expects Travis to leave town. Blue Heelers - Season 7 - Episode 13
Ben's response to a state of graffiti attacks on Mt Thomas signs and icons is to suggest a policy of zero tolerance of all minor offences. Ben and Jo certainly do not see eye to eye on zero tolerance and its effectiveness, and when they become involved with a group of young street kids squatting in a house, their differing approaches are put to the test, and their working relationship becomes strained. Jo seems to be proven right when first the squat the kids live in is bulldozed, and then one of them narrowly escapes injury in a charity bin fire, but Ben stands his ground. Ben and Jo must put aside their personal differences to discover that the most useful part of zero tolerance is tolerance itself.

An aspiring ballerina is injured in a car crash and Jo seeks justice. However, the young driver of the other car, who is also wanted on theft, is determined to go free and not have a blemish on his reputation as he is studying law. Ben's lawyer sister Liz arrives in town for a case and he asks her to stay with he and PJ. She is soon roped in to defending young Robbie Hart, the driver. PJ is shocked to discover Benny Matthews O.D'd in a nightclub, since Benny was vowing to go clean. He soon becomes angry, trying to find out if someone, particularly drug dealer Anthony Cutter, was involved. After Merv Poole gives them pretty good evidence to get Robbie on the burglary charge, it looks like they could have him on the dangerous driving as well until Liz tells them a surprising deal.
