Stefan Hausmann, a former false witness, is hit by a truck while driving on the highway, shortly after receiving an anonymous phone call. The caller, Erik Dekker, accuses himself of murdering Hausmann. Dekker, who was wrongly convicted years ago for the murder of a gas station attendant, now seems to be embarking on a campaign of revenge. Tom and Semir are unable to prevent the assassination attempt on public prosecutor Wolf, who is seriously injured. Dekker eventually kidnaps the last witness and Engelhardt, whose life is now also in danger.

Tom and Semir come across a series of murders in the drug trade: first drivers are brutally murdered, then the drug baron Helmut Marz. It quickly becomes clear that Leon Zürs, who they thought was dead, is alive and is taking over the empire. Disfigured by the fire, he blames Tom and wants revenge. Meanwhile, Tom learns that his great love Elena is pregnant - but his happiness is shattered when Zürs detonates a car bomb and kills Elena. When Grischek dies in Schumann's house, Schumann senses his big chance: Grischek has a suitcase full of money with him. Schumann just has to make the body disappear and convince his daughter Julia, who witnessed the incident, to keep the police out of the picture. Tom and Semir soon discover the body of Grischek's partner in the trunk of the crashed car. They find out that the crook duo stole the proceeds from a brothel. The brothel owner van Cleef and his right-hand man Draschko are also looking for the unknown man who must have taken Grischek from the scene of the accident. Who finds Schumann first?

Werner Freese recklessly causes an accident that results in death and flees. His son Marcel notices the crash, but Freese remains uncooperative. While Tom and Semir investigate, Tom recognizes Freese's wife Isabelle as his childhood sweetheart. Freese is suspected, but remains free due to a lack of evidence. Driven by jealousy and madness, he brutally beats Isabelle and threatens to kill her. Marcel finally confesses the truth, whereupon Tom and Semir catch Freese and save Isabelle.

The mafia killer Ante Dedic pursues Peter Schmidt and his son Robert to kill them, because Schmidt testified against the mafia years ago. After a first attack in which Peter is seriously injured and Robert is almost unharmed, Dedic plans another murder attempt in the hospital, which Tom and Semir are just able to prevent. Robert is brought to safety, but danger threatens here too. The investigations by the highway commissioners reveal that Schmidt had been given a new identity by the BKA - which suggests that someone from the ranks of the BKA has betrayed the cover.

Sergeant Klaus Eggers dies during a tank transport, and what initially looks like an accident turns out to be murder. Tom and Semir come across the 'Copia Honoris', a secret elite unit of the German army, to which Eggers belonged. It turns out that Eggers was responsible for cocaine smuggling in the unit and therefore had to die. After another member dies, the group falls apart. In the showdown, Tom and Semir confront Lieutenant Colonel Ringsdorf, who refuses to accept the defeat of the 'Copia Honoris'.

Jochen Bonrath steals a car to impress his girlfriend Tina and causes an accident. He accidentally takes a CD-ROM with him that gives access to any computer in the world. Dr. Schmidt, the owner of the CD, kidnaps Jochen and demands the CD back. During a failed handover, Jochen is freed, but Dieter Bonrath and Jochen suddenly find themselves sitting on a bomb. Dr. Schmidt threatens to blow it up if he doesn't get the CD. At the last second, Tom and Semir are able to defuse the bomb and catch Schmidt.
