Modern-day Texas Ranger, Cordell Walker's independent crime-solving methods have their roots in the rugged traditions of the Old West. Walker's closest friend is former Ranger, C.D. Parker, who retired after a knee injury, and now owns "C.D.'s," a Country/Western saloon/restaurant. Rookie Ranger, James "Jimmy" Trivette is an ex-football player who bases his crime-solving methods on reason and uses computers and cellular phones. Alex Cahill is the Assistant DA who shares a mutual attraction with Walker, but often disagrees with his unorthodox approach to law enforcement.

Roscoe Jones, the (black) minister who succeeded Trent's father is being targeted by a man named Stan Gorman. Who testified against Gorman after he tried to kill him, Roscoe Survived, but is friend was killed. While in prison Gorman became head of a white supremacy group, and now he is after Roscoe.

After an explosives expert known as the Iceman is hospitalized, the Rangers are forced to ask their old friend, Charlie Brooks, for help in catching a local crime boss who had hired the Iceman for a job, since Charlie bears a resemblance to the Iceman. While Charlie agrees to do this in exchange for not having to serve the rest of his community service, he soon loses the device that allowed Walker to keep track of him, not to mention that the Iceman soon escapes from the hospital.

McClain, Belle's brother.

When he proposes to her she turns him down and things get a little unpleasant between the two of them. An oil company hires one of the men on her crew to do what it takes to get her to leave. But when that fails, he kills Dr. Shannon and frames Sam for her murder.

CD is sent in undercover.
