Rocco is forced to return to Rome to confront his dark past—a task that becomes increasingly difficult, since someone has been informing the chief of police of his every move for some time. There’s a mole in the precinct. For the first time, Schiavone can’t trust anyone except Caterina and young Gabriele. Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Spinaceto, who is investigating the Castel di Decima murder, discovers a connection between the victim and the Honduran embassy. That’s all Rocco needs to understand that the victim was linked to Enzo Baiocchi. Following this lead, Rocco glimpses the chance to catch Baiocchi once and for all, solve the Castel di Decima murder, and get Sebastiano out of trouble—assuming the mole doesn’t stop him.

Following Adele’s murder, Costa and Baldi question Rocco to shed light on why Enzo Baiocchi tried to kill him. Rocco tells them the story that ruined his life. It’s 2007: Rocco is living in Rome and Marina is still alive. But she has discovered that Rocco is supplementing his salary with illegal dealings. Because of this, she leaves him and moves out. Meanwhile, Rocco is called to investigate the murder of two boys from Rome’s upper middle class, Giovanni and Matteo, who got themselves mixed up with a dangerous circle of drug dealers. With help from his friends Furio, Brizio, and Sebastiano, he traces those responsible for the boys’ deaths: Luigi Baiocchi and Sandro Silvestrelli, two long-time traffickers. All that remains is to capture the two criminals in a delicate operation at the port of Civitavecchia. Schiavone hits his target, but the consequences will be tragic.
