In the middle of the city a man suddenly goes up in flames. Was it suicide or an assassination attempt? The police are faced with a mystery and are initially keeping the matter under lock and key. Louise, the ambitious intern of the local newspaper, senses a scoop behind it - and her great chance of a permanent position. In order to get inside information, she uses - to put it mildly - unorthodox methods: First, she seduces the police officer Tom, who has investigated the crime scene; then she blackmailed a witness, and finally she even went to see the victim's partner. He categorically rules out suicide, but refers her to the deceased's long-time therapist: Gabriel, a hospital psychiatrist, on whose shoulders a tragic secret rests. Could he help her? A series about guilt and atonement - and about the fate that has a lasting impact on our thoughts and actions.

After meeting Moloch without being able to see him, Louise incorporates her manifesto into the article she is writing for her journal. For fear of seeing children burn, Louise calls the police at the place of her new meeting with Moloch. Judging that she has betrayed his trust, the latter signifies his death warrant. Gabriel follows his son's ghost to find an answer to the questions that haunt him.

The police kept the second tragedy from the media. During the vigil for the first victim, Louise approaches Gabriel, pretending to be a bereaved cousin. Although her boss has forbidden her to work on the subject, Louise persists and learns of the existence of the second victim. She invites herself into Gabriel's office for more information. A third man, manager of a supermarket, also burns. On the front of the store, an unknown hand paints the name "Moloch" in red letters.
