Based on the children's books created by Ludwig Bemelmans, this animated series follows the adventures of little red-haired Madeline and her friends in their Paris school. Despite being the smallest girl in Miss Clavel's boarding school, Madeline manages to get herself into one predicament after another. She causes her friends and teachers no end of worry, although things always seem to work themselves out in the end.

#1 - Madeline at the Hotel Riche

When the pipes burst and the old house is closed for a plumbing overhaul, Madeline and the girls move into Lord Cucuface's lavish suite at the Ritz. While there, they help a lonely rich girl and a hungry homeless girl, and soon discover that they'd rather have each other's love than live an empty upscale existence.

#4 - Madeline and the Dinosaur Bone

Genevieve digs up a huge bone in the garden that turns out to be a fossilized stegosaurus' hip bone. The girls are thrilled with the discovery until the Old House becomes a dig site and is invaded by hordes of paleontologists and equipment. Calm is briefly restored after Miss Clavel convinces Lord Cucuface to donate the bone to a museum. But when Genevieve misses her beloved bone and runs away, it is up to Madeline to find her and to lure her back with something better.

Pepito becomes frustrated when an old lamp from the Embassy attic fails to produce a Genie, and he throws the lamp in the trash.

#8 - Madeline's Detective School
Season 2 - Episode 7 - Aired 9/23/1995
To raise money to buy Miss Clavel a birthday present, Madeline starts a detective school. Meanwhile, Miss Clavel is receiving mysterious gifts of great value - jewels, a painting, etc. Inspector Moreau discovers they are stolen by the infamous cat burglar Le Chat and arrives to question Miss Clavel. Madeline and her students use their detective skills to apprehend Le Chat, who was once a reform student of Miss Clavel's and has been working at the Old House as a painter and gardener. The stolen items are returned, Le Chat is locked up and the girls discover that they do not need a lot of money to get Miss Clavel a present that she will always cherish.

#9 - Madeline and the Hunchback of Notre Dame
Season 2 - Episode 8 - Aired 9/30/1995
After Miss Clavel inspires the girls to read more books, they decide to put on a presentation of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." Pepito refuses to play the title role because he is embarrassed to portray an ugly, deformed character. In an attempt to change his mind, the group visits Notre Dame where a scary real-live hunchback swings down from the bell tower and carries off Miss Clavel! The "hunchback" turns out to be the dashing Gerard Dippity-doo, who is starring in a film version of the novel. Dippity-doo comes to the girls' performance, inspiring Pepito to show compassion for people with disabilities - and to play the role of the hunchback magnificently.

#10 - Madeline and the Big Cheese
Season 2 - Episode 9 - Aired 10/6/1995
Lord Cucuface arrives at the Old House with a large chunk of prize-winning cheese (for fondue) and a new touring car. While Cucuface takes Miss Clavel for a calamitous driving lesson, the mice eat the cheese. The girls distract Lord Cucuface by putting him to sleep with a boring play, as Madeline and Pepito convince the reluctant Miss Clavel to take the car to replace the cheese before Lord Cucuface wakes up. The local cheese shop is out, so they end up searching for the cheese maker in the countryside where they get a flat tire, overheat, and run out of gas. In the end, they get towed back to town by the cheese maker’s horse - just in time to prepare some delicious fondue before Lord Cucuface wake up.

For their entry in the Science Exhibition, Madeline and the girls create a magnificent scale model of a hot air balloon.

The American child star Sugar Dimples becomes homesick when visiting Paris, and especially misses Halloween, which is not celebrated in France.

In the middle of the winter holiday season, Miss Clavel gets called away from the Old House to care for her ailing aunt.

While touring Versailles with Miss Clavel and the girls, Pepito disobeys a "Do Not Touch" sign, and leaves fingerprints of mud and chocolate on a priceless harpsichord. Pepito feels more and more guilty until Madeline finally convinces him to fess up and face the consequences.

A new girl from India is greeted with suspicion and distrust after the girls overhear that she's an "alien", and then keep catching her in the attic with weird devices and antenna on her head.

#17 - Madeline on Stage

When Miss Clavel brings in a "method" acting teacher to direct the girls in a play, Madeline is sure she will get the leading role. Disappointed when given supporting roles (as trees) Madeline and her friends plan to boycott the play, until Madeline discovers that even small part can be important and fun, and that the girl who won the lead really deserved the part.

#18 - Madeline and the Marionettes
Season 3 - Episode 14 - Aired 12/9/2000
Madeline and the girls help to reform an unhappy puppeteer in the Jardin de Luxembourg, who, because he never had the talent to be an opera singer, puts on marionette shows that twist the plots of classic fairy tales and disappoint children in the audience.

When Madeline gets a pair of new ice skates for her birthday, she becomes so obsessed with practicing her skating that she neglects all her other responsibilities and friendships, and finally finds that ice skating has become a chore rather than a fun hobby.

When Madeline and the girls go to Dr. Cohn for a physical, all the girls have grown several inches except Madeline, who has a dream that she will be Tom Thumb-sized for her whole life. In the end, she feels better when she discovers that Georgette, the tallest girl, has size issues as well.

After they graduate, Pepito's unruly cousin Pablito tries to convince Pepito that manners are uncool, but Madeline helps Pepito see the light just in time for him to put on his best behavior during an event for the soccer star Pepe Pelota.

After Pepito and the girls go to see Harry Houdini's show, Pepito decides to create his own magic show at home, and puts poor Genevieve in danger. Houdini helps the children see how to use magic properly and shows them how to appreciate the gifts they were born with.

Madeline and the girls become extremely jealous when lovesick Genevieve falls in love with a neighborhood dog, but in the end, Madeline helps the girls realize that Genevieve has plenty of love to go around.

While touring Lord Cucuface's perfume factory in Grasse, Pepito finds a friendly skunk, which he sneaks into the factory. When Chloe, offended by the skunk's odor, dips it into a vat of the latest perfume, Madeline and the girls have to "fix" the perfume before anyone finds out.
