#1 - Eliminate Her

Season 1 - Episode 11 - Aired 1/23/2017

Queen Ji So orders the Princess to get rid of Ah Ro without anyone knowing in order to protect the King. The Princess tries to kill her by shooting an arrow, but fails to do so as Sun Woo takes the arrow instead of her. Ji Dwi becomes furious and warns the Princess that he will never forgive her if she tries to harm Ah Ro ever again.

Master Young Shil and Prince Hwi Kyung try to crown Sun Woo as the new king of Silla, but Sun Woo swears his allegiance to the King with the other Hwarangs. Sun Woo agrees to support Ji Dwi and promises to eliminate those who are against him because he realizes that they dream of the same future for Silla.

#3 - Become King

Season 1 - Episode 19 - Aired 2/20/2017

Master Hwi Kyung finishes preparations to make Sun Woo the new king and is waiting for his decision. To protect the people who are weak, kind, injured, and abandoned, Sun Woo makes up his mind to become king. Meanwhile, Ji Dwi finds out who Sun Woo really is only after he claims to take the throne.

#4 - Wonhwa

Season 1 - Episode 18 - Aired 2/14/2017

Princess Sook Myung and Ah Ro are selected to be Wonhwa, the two leaders of Hwarang. The Queen plans to use them to control the Hwarang and get rid of them once they become useless. Meanwhile, Prince Hwi Kyung asks if Sun Woo is willing to become a real king and change the world as he desires.

Now, everyone thinks that Sun Woo is the King of Silla and he will change the world after taking his throne. Threatening to kill Ah Ro, the Queen forces him to continue pretending to be the one. Meanwhile, Ji Dwi asks Ah Ro to run away together so that he can be free from this mess and have an ordinary life with her.

#7 - A Sword Fight

Season 1 - Episode 15 - Aired 2/6/2017

In order to save Ah Ro, Sun Woo claims himself to be the king of Silla. The Crown Prince of Baekje plans to kill him brutally and take over Silla, but Sun Woo suggests to have a sword fight and to release them if he wins. Will they make amity and return to Silla safely?

#8 - Reveal Yourself

Season 1 - Episode 14 - Aired 1/31/2017

The Crown Prince of Baekje offers Princess Sook Myung a wedlock to keep peace between two nations. He also receives a secret letter that says the King of Silla is within the delegation. In order to find out who the faceless King is, he threatens to kill the Silla hostages if the King doesn’t reveal himself.

#9 - Amity Delegates

Season 1 - Episode 13 - Aired 1/30/2017

To maintain their alliances with Baekje, the Queen and the officials decide to send the Princess and a few members of Hwarang to see the Crown Prince of Baekje. It is Hwarang’s first mission to escort the Princess as the amity delegates, but it is also dangerous as they might not be able to return safely.

#10 - Sparring Competition

Season 1 - Episode 12 - Aired 1/24/2017

Princess Sook Myung wants the Hwarangs to have a bloody fight as if they were in a real war, but they only pretend to spar because they do not want to harm any of their colleagues. Suspecting Sun Woo to be the King, Master Young Shil suggests a match between his guard and Sun Woo to see how Queen Ji So reacts.

#11 - To the Capital

Season 1 - Episode 1 - Aired 12/19/2016

Moo Myung decides to enter the capital with Moon to find Moon’s family even though the capital is only open to those with entry permits. Their only clue is Moon’s necklace, but they ask around to find at least one person who knows something about it. Meanwhile, Queen Ji So offers We Hwa a chance to be the teacher of a new group consisting of True Bone young males.

#12 - New Disciples

Season 1 - Episode 10 - Aired 1/17/2017

After their successful performance, Hwarangs meet with their first disciples who will be serving as the heads of each Hwarang’s disciples. They will have to train together in order to pass their next assignment. Meanwhile, Ah Ro overhears the conversation between the Queen and Ji Dwi and finds out that Ji Dwi is the King of Silla.

#13 - Ruin the Performance

Season 1 - Episode 9 - Aired 1/16/2017

Hwarang has practiced a lot for their performance, and everyone is expecting to watch it at the festival. However, Master Young Shil orders Ban Ryu to ruin the performance so that the people see how unprepared and incompetent the Queen’s Hwarang is. Ban Ryu hates that he must follow the order when he wants to make it successful with other members.

#14 - Dance and Music

Season 1 - Episode 8 - Aired 1/10/2017

Hwarang’s second assignment is to give a music performance at the Thanksgiving Festival. Woo Reuk, the master of instruments, visits Hwarang House as an instructor. The members practise day and night to show off their amazing performance to the people and the Queen. Meanwhile, Ah Ro goes to talk to Woo Reuk after finding out that he raised her brother.

#15 - King as Water

Season 1 - Episode 7 - Aired 1/9/2017

Master We Hwa gives out the first assignment to the Hwarang members. It is to discuss the topic of a king as water and it must be based on “Tao Te Ching” by Laozi. Though his answer is enough to convince everyone, Sun Woo fails to pass because he argues that Taoism is garbage. He now has only two more chances left to survive in Hwarang.

#16 - Annoying Half-Breed

Season 1 - Episode 6 - Aired 1/3/2017

They begin their training as members of Hwarang, but some of them are annoyed by a half-breed, Sun Woo, for being in the same group. Ban Ryu is especially disgusted that he insults Sun Woo in every way. He tries to hold in, but starts the fight at last when Ban Ryu talks bad about Ah Ro.

#17 - Beginning of Hwarang

Season 1 - Episode 5 - Aired 1/2/2017

The selected young masters are invited to attend the appointment ceremony of Hwarang. Queen Ji So feels shocked and betrayed to see her son, Sam Mek Jong at the ceremony because she has worked so hard to protect him until now and his appearance is against her will. However, the King has decided to introduce himself to the world through joining Hwarang.

#18 - Become a Hwarang

Season 1 - Episode 4 - Aired 12/27/2016

The sons of the high officials are arrested for fighting in the sacred place, Najeong. The only way for them to live is to join Hwarang, and they all agree to do it though some of their fathers hate the idea. Meanwhile, the Queen plans to train Master Ahn Ji’s son to be the King’s loyal dog by making him a Hwarang.

#19 - Your Brother

Season 1 - Episode 3 - Aired 12/26/2016

Master Ahn Ji offers Moo Myung to stay in his house and pretend to be Sun Woo, his son and Ah Ro’s brother. After hearing this could be Mak Moon’s will, Moo Myung agrees to stay, but he feels so bad because it seems like he’s taking away his best friend’s place. Ah Ro is still suspicious if he is really her brother, but she’s happy that her brother is finally back.

#20 - Mak Moon’s Death

Season 1 - Episode 2 - Aired 12/20/2016

Mak Moon is attacked by the Commandant just because he has seen the face of the King. Moo Myung is furious and decides to take revenge on those who killed his best friend. Meanwhile, Master Ahn Ji hears the news about his son and searches everywhere in the capital, but it is too late when he finds Mak Moon dying due to the severe injuries.
