A notice in a newspaper seeks red-headed men, inviting them to join a league which will pay them well - and Jabez Wilson, a pawnbroker who responds, finds he is hired and paid generously for spending four hours a day copying an encyclopedia in long hand. When the league is suddenly dissolved, Holmes is asked to find out what has been going on, and he quickly suspects crime. Indeed, behind this curious arrangement lurks Holmes's arch-enemy, Professor Moriarty.

#2 - Debt of Love (I)
The Bill - Season 17 - Episode 72
Part One - A Pound of Flesh: The relief find themselves short-staffed with Boyden having taken leave. Singh investigates several assault cases, which he believes are down to a moneylender getting heavy handed when calling in a debt. Ackland sees the mother of one of the victims talking to Amy, Boyden's daughter, and it turns out she is also in debt to the loan shark. When Amy is arrested for petty theft, Ackland convinces Boyden to talk to her, and when Amy is assaulted by the loan shark's thugs, Boyden resolves to pay off her debt himself. When he turns up with the money, he is recognised by one of the men as a police officer, blows a CID raid on the office and Amy finds herself in grave danger.

The Bill - Season 17 - Episode 85
Part Three - Compulsion: Rawton addresses the team, and puts forward the theory that rape victim Terri's death was not suicide, but murder. Whilst Cork and Singh voice doubts, Spears supports Rawton's theory. Spears returns to the riverside where Terri's body was found, and makes a major break-through when a passer-by reveals that his wife saw Terri's body being dumped. Later, Spears decides to keep an eye on Cork, and follows him to a pub where he meets up with an old mate. On her return, Spears spots a man lurking outside her flat, but he turns out to be her old friend Eddie, who works for the Thames Valley police. After trying to dig up information on Cork, Eddie disappears without trace.

Holmes is approached by Helen Stoner, who feels threatened by her domineering step-father, Dr Grimesby Roylott. Her sister died mysteriously just before her planned wedding, and Helen has heard again the curious whistle she first heard on the night of her sister's death.Holmes perceives great danger and lays a complicated plan to defeat the threat to the beautiful Helen.

Penny, when he finally arrives, tells Yorkie off for not blocking off the road. When Yorkie goes to move a bus on, he discovers the bus driver is the husband of the driver of the crushed car. Yorkie is in shock and Viv is worried about him. Cryer seems to be the only one who understands. Yorkie is talking about giving up.

Ram raiders attempt to break into an Asain electrical store. Sgt. Boyden and George stop ithile Dave gives chase to another of the raiders. One of the neighbouring store owners brings in a bottle of stotch for Sgt. Boyden and the store owners give him a CD player. Monroe is not happy that Boyden was given something. Woods is sent to check on stolen money at B.P.C. Software. The suspect is an ex offender. When interviewed, the suspect claims she was set up because the security officer tried to assault her like he had with another employee.
