Viv and Ken go to an army surplus store that seems to be being supplied off the back of a lorry. Van used to deliver the gear was nicked from Yorkshire. 2 redcaps (who don't think much of police) turn up to collect squaddies. Cryer doesn't think they are kosher. Cryer wants someone for a p.a. job at local school and asks Ken to buy a flying jacket. An ice-cream van and a car cause a traffic snarl-up near the station. Roach sends a traffic warden to sort it out. Hollis is also sent out to deal with it. DC Webb investigates an assault but is rather taken with the victim's beautiful wife.
Webb is close to infiltrating the gang, despite the suspicions of some of its members: suspicions which fire up when McAllister, posing as his girlfriend, turns up to a gang meeting overdressed and wearing Givenchy perfume. Napper smells a rat and follows McAllister as she desperately tries to find a hospital to keep her cover intact. Napper catches up with her and accuses her of being an undercover reporter. With her cover blown, McAllister returns to Sun Hill. Chandler blasts her for her stupidity, and forces her to take notes as they hear Webb taking a severe beating from Napper's thugs. Napper stops the beating and welcomes Webb as a full-fledged member of Britannia.
The England game is on, and the Britannia gang are set for a battle with the "Dogs of Hell", an opposing European gang of hooligans. Webb is assigned to find the location of the pre-match meeting, while Riley and Quinnan go undercover at the match itself. To Riley's horror, Quinnan is arrested when he accuses a photographer of inciting violence. Webb, meanwhile, is on his own after a mix-up about the meeting location, and ends up in the thick of a pitched battle between the gangs. When the nearest riot unit available are deployed from Sun Hill, Webb's cover is blown when he is recognised by some of his fellow officers, and he returns to the station to turn out the evidence.
A dramatic train robbery threatens and interferes with Bradley's plan to marry Jackie Lambert. Greengrass has not seen his sister for 22 years, but now her husband has died she turns up to take command.
P.C. Melvin and P.C. Ramsey are in a garden shed doing an obbo on a garage believed to contain with stolen motorbikes. Ramsey is winding Melvin up about being a Christian, when a ball is kicked through the window. The owner of the shed gets into a violent row with his family, and while Melvin and Ramsey are dealing with the domestic at the house, they miss the suspect arriving at the garage. Ch. Insp. Conway attends a meeting at the Town Hall with residents of the Jasmine Allen Estate, but the meeting degenerates into arguments and slanging matches. P.C. Smith brings in a violent prisoner from the estate who was high on cocaine, but Sun Hill faces a death in custody when the man dies of an overdose shortly after arrival. With a riot brewing outside, Insp. Frazer must convince the man's father to tell the mob to blame the drugs, not the police.
D.S. Roach spots a drug deal taking place on the Rochester Estate, but he, Carver and Dashwood fail to catch the dealers. P.C. Haynes and P.C. Ramsey spot the escaping car in their panda and give chase, but the dealers' car hits a little girl before crashing into a skip. Haynes loses one of the suspects when obstructed by some punks, but the driver of the car, Mickey Squire, is arrested. With Burnside on leave, Ch. Insp. Conway allows Ramsey and Haynes to continue with the case. Ramsey is pleased as he thinks it may get him back into C.I.D. He and Haynes play good-cop/bad-cop to get a confession, and Haynes goes undercover at a party to find the escaped passenger and the main drug supplier. C.I.D. raid the supplier's luxurious apartment and discover a huge amount of drugs and stolen goods in his garage. P.C. Melvin and W.P.C. Brind attend a fracas at a laundrette. Melvin slips on some soap, leaving Brind to take charge.
Bill offers Auntie Mary to become hotel manager in Sidmouth. Celia Gilmour wants to see her sister, but the front door is locked and suddenly a van rushes away.
Brendan goes fishing, and sees the ghost of Finbar Corcoran, a highwayman who was hanged in the 18th century. In telling the story he also informs Paul that Fitzgerald's bar now owns the lucrative local fishing rights, and Paul persuades Father Sheahan that angling holidays will bring in money to the trust. Nathaniel Clegghorne brawls with David and Greengrass over two maran hens and with Lord Ashfordly who trains a dog close to Clegghorne's ground. A film producer seeks locations and Lord Ashfordly is very cooperative.
Tosh investigates a fire bombing of an Asian shop. Dave and Cathy investigates an Asian lady accused of shoplifting. Cathy thinks there is something going on. Her husband is gambling. Dave and Sgt. Boyden join the game.
Steve is late for shift. Just as Steve is about to arrest a fine defaulter Dave is nearly run over by a speeding BMW. Steve really wants to arrest the fine defaulter, who has already left by the time he gets back, but Dave wants to deal with the driver. They find the body of the car owner's lover in the boot of the car.
The Dooley's new pet goat, Daddy G, is causing havoc at the pub, and is moved to Avril's stables. Avril, however, has money worries, and is thinking of selling The Cat, her beloved racehorse. Burnside briefs the troops about a raid. The informant is scared and wants to back out, and when the raid takes place, there is nothing there. Burnside visits an ex-copper in prison and makes a deal that he no intention of keeping.
A D.S. from the Drug squad is looking for the D.C.I. Cathy recognises him. He is interested in Cathy and follows her on her beat as she checks a domestic. He turns out to be her ex-husband who wants her back. The wife involved in the domestic had been beaten regularly before she stabbed her husband. Quinnan is mouthing off in the canteen and Cathy takes offense. Later Dave wants to patch things up with her. When Dave goes to the hospital he comes across Cathy being threatened by her ex who takes a swing at Dave.
Three months on, Nikki returns to work and finds the experience still haunts her and has to deal with a stabbing victim on her first shift. Jack is embarrased when she finds out about his spontaneous marriage proposal by her bedside. While taking his children out to the fair, Harry finds himself on-duty after a helicopter crash and is forced to deal with the injured as well as deal with his rebellious daughter. He feels guilty when he finds his heroic actions have infact cost lives. After being arrested, Lara is terrified for her future and looks to David's wife to verify her story in court.
