Trieste, our days. Leonardo Cagliostro is a police commissioner who often acts on his own and without respecting the rules, just as when, after receiving a tip, he decides to go alone in a shed where he could arrest the Mexican, dangerous drug dealer who is smashing the Red Ghost, a drug that is making numerous victims. This decision, however, is not approved by the magistrate Antonio Piras, nor by the assistant chief Stefano Rambelli, nor by Anna Mayer, magistrate and wife of the protagonist, from which he is separating. As he is about to arrest the Mexican, he is shot to death by a third man, who remains unseen and who also kills the drug dealer. But after being killed, Cagliostro remains on Earth as a ghost: but before crossing the red door which should make him pass away, he foresees the future, in which his wife Anna is killed by his same assassin. Cagliostro resists the temptation to cross the door and remains on Earth, to investigate and to find out who may have betrayed him and his wife. His death is discovered by his colleagues of the police headquarters and they rush to the crime scene. The DC Rambelli and Valerio Lorenzi, a colleague, go to Anna’s to tell her what happened: she starts shouting by despair, even though her husband is beside her as ghost. The investigations continue on the crime scene to reconstruct the shooting, without knowing that there was a third man. Cagliostro assists to the investigations and then walks around the city of Trieste, when he sees a teenager swerving on a moped and falling down: the man notices that she can see him, but she gets up and rushes away, telling him he’s crazy. Therefore, Cagliostro understands that nothing is lost and that he can still do something to save his wife and find out who his murderer is.
