Chelsea began their title defence at home to Swansea, who had not won this fixture for 90 years, while an expensively revamped Manchester United side hosted Tottenham. The three promoted sides were all in action: Bournemouth made their top-flight debut against Aston Villa, Norwich welcomed Crystal Palace to Carrow Road, and Watford travelled to Everton.

It is a testing fixture for Hull, who began the season away at Chelsea, and now face another of the title favourites. Their opponents are determined to regain the Premier League trophy they lifted in 2012, and have strengthened their squad by signing Spanish duo Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas plus Montenegrin talent Stefan Jovetic. Last season's other two promoted sides, Cardiff City and Crystal Palace, are at home to Everton and Sunderland respectively. Elsewhere, Newcastle host Fulham and Norwich meet Southampton, while Stoke head to West Ham.

Highlights of Saturday's seven Premier League matches as the 2016-17 season gets underway. Last season, host Gary Lineker promised to present the show in his underwear if Leicester won the title - and with the Foxes going on to claim a shock win, will he stick to that promise? Leicester begin their campaign away to newly promoted Hull City, while all eyes will be on new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, whose first league game in English football comes against Sunderland. Ronald Koeman makes his debut as Everton boss as Tottenham travel to Goodison Park, while Burnley take on Swansea City, Crystal Palace meet West Brom, Middlesbrough host Stoke and Southampton face Watford.

Watford entertain Chelsea at Vicarage Road, with both teams boasting new Italian managers. Former Napoli and Inter boss Walter Mazzarri took charge of the Hornets this summer, while ex-Juventus and Italy coach Antonio Conte was appointed manager of the Blues. Elsewhere, Stoke City play Manchester City, Burnley host Liverpool, Tottenham meet Crystal Palace and West Brom face Everton. There is also a chance to see the best of the action from the Friday night game between Manchester United and Southampton.

Champions Manchester United were at Bolton, whom they twice trailed in the corresponding fixture last year, while neighbours City hosted Wigan. Premier League newcomers Swansea travelled up the M4 to face Arsenal, while new Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas took the Blues on a long journey north to meet Sunderland. Everton v Aston Villa is the most-played fixture in the top flight, and the two met again today at Goodison Park. The remaining matches saw Wolves host Tottenham and Liverpool visit Stoke.
