Three months after being involved in an incident that went wrong, Nick Berrof, of the Montreal Police Force, returns to service. Despite Sergeant Houle's protests, Commander Gendron decided to have him patrolled in the company of Benoît “Ben” Chartier. He has just been hired after spending 15 years in the Sûreté du Québec in the provinces, and we quickly nicknamed him “the deer”. Still tormented by the mishap that forced him to rest, Nick would have liked to work alone. He is intractable with his new partner. Tyler Joseph, who realizes this, is responsible for giving the newcomer a better welcome. An armed robbery in a pizza restaurant gives Ben the opportunity to prove his worth, but also to discover that not everything is easy for the cops who work in the big city. Ben finds himself in an awkward position when Gendron explains to him the real reasons he paired him with Nick Berrof.

He gives Nick a bad quarter of an hour by commenting on the incident that nearly cost Harvey his life. As Catherine's visits begin to wane, Ben feels very lonely in the heart of the big city.

Ben wakes up to realize that he sheltered Tyler after a very drunken night. Nick continues to obsess over the memory of his former partner Harvey. The first of the month is always a hell of a day for a downtown job. The delivery of "BS checks" incites many people to excess and encourages thieves. The trend is confirmed and interventions are multiplying. At Isabelle's request, Nick has to take a short break to look after Theo, who has had an accident. Everyone returns to the station exhausted, but Houle insists that “volunteers” work overtime. Nick and Ben are one of them. While the teams converge on a location where two corpses have been discovered, Audrey Pouliot, Nick's mistress, takes the opportunity to relaunch him. Nick and Ben must then go urgently to the apartment of Brouillard, who is in the process of attacking his wife. Justine. Brouillard begs his colleagues not to denounce him as a violent and dangerous husband, which would put his career in jeopardy.

He confides his problems to Houle and Marie-Louise. The sergeant encourages him to give his new teammate a chance. A dramatic intervention will help to develop a bond between them. However, Commander Gendron continues to insist that Ben provide him with detailed reports on Berrof. He threatens to relegate him to administrative tasks if he refuses to comply.
