Taviner promises her some time in the Area Car, much to Hollis's annoyance. Taviner and Clarke interview Warren Debdale, a student who was brutally beaten, but he insists he didn't know the perpetrators. His father suspects the boy's friends are involved, but Glaze discovers the father is being blackmailed by a drug smuggling gang. Assigned to watch Warren in the hospital, Clarke has a coffee with a nurse, and is horrified to find Warren missing when she returns. Clarke's flatmate then threatens to throw her out unless she pays the rent she owes.

Glaze is outraged when Clarke falls asleep on an obbo watching the Borrovitch brothers, who are suspected of running a protection racket. Taviner and Clarke then investigate the theft of stolen diggers on a building site. The main suspect is Mick Abbott, an occasional employee at the site, and when they visit him in the bus where he lives, his wife reacts angrily and attacks Clarke. Desperate to clear her debt, Clarke begins moonlighting in telesales at her flatmate's company. While out at a bar with her new co-workers, she spots the Borrovitch brothers, allowing Glaze to make a connection with the stolen diggers and German arms dealers, and a successful raid sees all the culprits behind bars.

George tapes off an area around a house where a body has been found. AMIT turns up. There is a way through the attic into the empty house next door. The murdered man is supposed to have no money and is not very popular. There is a local tom's wallet in the next door house. George is asked about the dead man by a lad who has been primed by a man in a van which takes off when he sees George approaching. The new owners of the house arrive as the body is removed.

D.C.s Skase, Lines and D.I.Johnson along with Morgan, Pearce and Woods watch a man get into a vasn to do a deal to buy wine that had been hi-jacked. DCI Meadows thinks this arrest of the men in the van has stopped some hi-jacks. Steve is not happy he was left out after feeding Pearce the information. Steve goes and complains to the man who gave him the info. Pearce also gets into trouble because he had got the info from a man he had never seen. Meadows talks to the man watched in the morning who has a license in a false name but he is not prepared to grass on the man they believe was behind the hi-jacks. Monroe argues with Johnson about holding the prisoners. Their mother comes to check on them. Johnson talks to Loxton about running a snout and she apologises. They then go to talk to the snout and find out he had told the other men held about the deal.

With PC Quinnan in a critical condition in St Hugh's Hospital, the police descend on the Jasmine Allen estate, determined to catch those responsible. PC Garfield manages to identify most of the gang, and a young boy, Kevin White, bought in for questioning names them as the 'Sun Hill Massive'. Garfield and DS Boulton come to blows when Boulton denies any responsiblity for the attack on Quinnan. Acting on a tip-off, the police raid Mick Glover's flat again, finding he is responsible for the burgleries, and that his son Ben and Kevin White were the ones who stabbed Quinnan.

Santini obtains Fox's address from CAD and calls on her but she doesn't want to speak to him. Fox tells a Federation representative from Stafford Row about the assault but can't decide whether to make a formal complaint. The next day, the pair are assigned together. Santini loses a prisoner and blames it on Fox. Santini calls at Fox's flat that evening. She refuses to let him in. He threatens that if she wants a war, she's got a war.
