Martin Beck is drawn into a case of a missing girl in Stockholm.
Crime boss Zlatko Lozanovic is shot and the Beck group maps all Zlatko's enemies, which turns out to be the major part of the Stockholm underworld. It becomes a race against time when even Zlatko's minions are looking for the perpetrator.
